Snap option in sketch palette

I am seeking some clarification on the function of the snap option in the sketch palette. From what I understand, this toggles on snapping to the grid, not to sketch entities.

When this is turned on, hovering the cursor in space would often trigger the snap icon. I have often heard of users saying that this should be turned on in order to snap to sketch entities. However, I am hesitant to use this as it would be impossible to tell whether I am snapping to the grid or to an entity.

Turn off the grid.

snap to entities, is a very common workflow.

Every sketch should be fully constrained (only black, purple or green items)

I actually have the grid turned off. I am asking this question because in some cases, it seems like turning on the snap option in the sketch palette helps to snap to sketch entities. But I am not sure whether it is snapping to an underlying grid or to the sketch entity.

I am looking for a definitive answer as to what turning on the snap option in the sketch palette actually does.

  • Snap: Enables or disables the ability to snap to the sketch grid.

Direct from the online manual.

Appears that when turned on, it is trying to snap to even an invisible grid.

hi, @tanwinghoe1983

the snap function is regulated in the selection filters. I personally don't like a grid either. that is helpful for children.
