SketchUp 3D Model DXF export to Fusion, how to make a solid body?

Hi everyone,

 

I'm learning how to use Fusion coming from SketchUp for CNC cutting and have two questions.

 

I created a 3D model in SketchUp of basically a hollow cylinder cut at a diagonal 'sketchup-view1.jpg' and trying to create it as a solid body in Fusion 360.  I exported it as a DXF and when importing it in Fusion, it's all broken up into lines.

 

I attached a jpg 'fusion-view1' as the example of the broken lines.

With a long trial and error of clicking options, I managed to create the top and bottom profiles of the cylinders 'fusion-view2'.

 

Question 1) How can I directly create a solid body from the broken line phase?

Question 2) How can I join the profiles to create a solid body?

Start fresh in Fusion, you will save time and effort trying to convert such a simple set of objects.

 

There are so many ways to get it done, it is hard to tell just what you actually have been given by Fusion, by that I mean are there four sketches, is there one sketch, probably, would then mean the articles are in a 3d sketch.  3d sketches are not the easiest to use.

 

Not done it myself, but as a wild guess you will likely get a series of small lines as if it is a conversion of a STL body.  Faceted geometry will choke Fusion, on a big job.

 

In Fusion, 

create top view sketch, and make the 4 circles.

Extrude the 2 Rings higher than needed.

create a side view sketch, that will be looking directly down the valley of the Vee in your second cylinder.   Draw the straight lines that depict the top level of both tubes, matching the dxf File data.

 

Use Split Body, and cut the top excess off by selecting a tube, and the respective cutter.

Hide or remove the offcuts.

Ah yes, I see what you mean Dave, might just be simpler to redraw it in Fusion than fuss around with import aspects.

 

I'll give that a shot!
