Sketching on angled plane

Hi,

I'm in the process of designing a radio controlled model aircraft.

I have 3 views to use as the profile references which I have imported as canvases.

My problem is knowing how to correctly draw profiles onto angled planes when of course the reference 3 views are 2D.

I have tried sketching directly onto the angled plane as well as sketching onto a planar plane and projecting onto the angled plane but nothing I have tried has worked.

Specifically I'm trying to sketch the angled formers in the front cockpit, these formers need to be drawn on planes 1 and 2. I've used the side view to set the plane angles and I'm trying to use the front and top views to draw the canopy framework.

I haven't done a lot with Fusion yet and I'm sure this is basic stuff for those who know what they are doing!

I have uploaded the Fusion file as well as a reference image.

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks.

Lots of people know this way better.    I would be tempted to construct a plane for each of the panes.   You have to figure out the angles and offsets from a center.    Once that is done create a sketch on each plane and draw the shape.

The shape looks very complicated, but it looks like if you get the biggest planes first. You could use a plane through three points to get the rest of them.
Also determine the symetery of the planes and model only to half of them then mirror the get the whole shape.

I added detail to the centre line sketch.

Make dummy bodies for the seam outlines.

Make the glass panels with Loft on the dummy body edges, saves drawing anything.

I agree with @jeffescott do half and mirror.

Take small steps to save confusion,

The 3 views are never so accurate as to trust them, but as a guide you will get there OK.

Framework can come later....

Thank you for this - I'll try to take this method forward!

Hi,

So I've taken this concept forward to complete the canopy shape - thank you again for the idea.

I'm now sketching for extrusions to create the framework but I have a misalignment issue which I'm not sure how best to address.

I've uploaded the model and a screenshot of the problem which exists between sketches F4H / F9H and F8H / F10H - should I extend the sketch lines to the point where they intersect or do I have an underlying problem with the surface positions?

Many thanks.

I'll presume you are trying to make the frame.  Not studied the file yet.

Not what I would do.  First undo the last mirror , (and Capture Position next to the mirror) and stitch the half model.

Later you will finish a full half Fuse pod before the last mirror, will be half the work to do.  Half as many sketches / Extrudes, etc.

First how thick is the Frame Extrude going to be?

How thick will the glass be?

Time to be thinking about what you need from Fusion, are you making a flying model?

My demo was based on outside face of the "frame".

So that you get something done.

Offset the glass house inside by the thickness of the frame.

Thicken this new body by the thickness of the glass.

Hide the glass.

Make side view Extrude > Cut window holes.

Some you can't get will come from the front view,

so that you have a completed frame left of the original body.

Thicken this frame, by frame thickness.

So when did the Component move off the canvass?  Delete the capture position icon (as above) for it.

Ground the active Component at the time it is created.

New Sketch and 13 new profiles, for these windows, will be a few more from the front.

I've made some progress on this using your suggestions but I have 2 faces which are incorrect and cannot be sketched on. I can visually see they are not correct but not sure what has caused it. Model uploaded.

To answer your previous question, yes the design is for an RC model, I'm planning on designing canopies with options for 3D printing or traditional wooden frameworks.

Also you referenced going off canvas and capture position - I couldn't see an icon for this? When Fusion asks for revert or capture position I just select capture position - is this the wrong thing to do?

Any help appreciated.

Many thanks.

Since my last post I've resolved the surface issue but I'm still not sure about the positioning issues.

I've attached my latest version.

Many thanks.

I had a chance to walk up the timeline. All looks could as presented.

I found some sketches out of position, (green articles will not update with changes) and there are some Capture Position icons (4 or 5) in the later part of the timeline.

So until you have Motion Joints, you should not be needing the captures.

For components that don't move the Component should be grounded at the time it was created.  Components are free to move unless prevented with Ground or Joints.  Accidental movement is then prevented.

If accidental movement happens, (without grounds) the Capture / Revert icons appear and Revert should be the option taken.

As you walk up to a Capture - test it, forward and back, if the captured new position - unwanted - delete the icon and the model will update with the old, required position.  You may need to edit broken icons after this happens.

Capture Position Icons are found by activating the top-level component.  I deleted them all (from first to last) and have noticed nothing broke.

I don't use or understand suppressed timeline icons.
