Sketch runs an flips

When attempting to add a geometric figure to an existing sketch which has been turned parallel to the grid to accomodate drawing the geometric figure the moment I select the figure and click on the location the sketch jumps away and flips to the attitude at which it was created.

Hi,

Thanks for posting. I think I can figure out what you are asking, but bear with me if I get it wrong. If you were to make a video with Autodesk Screencast it would be more illustrative of the problem.

First it sounds mostly like you are getting the results of "auto look at sketch", which is in Preferences, under the menu with your name on it in the upper right hand corner.

auto_look_at_sketch.png

Second, it sounds like you might be a) starting a sketch command, and b) selecting the visible sketch you wish to edit, which would also result in Fusion rolling the timeline back to the point where the sketch exists in time. This could also be a bit surprising.

If you could make a screencast and post it here that would clear up any confusion on my part.

Thanks,

Thanks. That helped a lot.

In the video I can see where this is going wrong for you.

At 0:45 seconds you are starting a new sketch rectangle, but you are picking the existing sketch. In the image below you can see that as you get close to the origin the existing sketch becomes highlighted. This means you are picking it.

don't pick the existing sketch when starting a new sketch.PNG

The moment you pick it, Fusion thinks you want to add a rectangle to it because you started the rectangle tool, then selected an existing sketch line which happens to be turned on its side.

Instead, pick a plane or planar surface to sketch on. In your video you made a workplane. Pick that workplane to sketch on.

Also, it would help if you were not looking at the new sketch plane orthographically. By doing this you are hiding the existing sketch from your vision, but not from the mouse! It's much easier to see that you are picking the #1 sketch when the view is not orthographic to the intended #2 sketch plane.

Thanks,
