Sketch Plane moved mysteriously, cannot redefine

Hi all,

I created a sketch and saved and when I opened up Fusion360 it seems to have moved while I wasn't looking. I tried to redefine the sketch plane to put it back where it belongs, but that didn't work either (see video).

Steps taken:

1. create new component

2. create offset plane from a surface of another component

3. create sketch on the offset plane

4. extrude, edit, etc

5. close Fusion360

6. Open Fusion360, see part where it shouldn't be

7. Attempt to redefine sketch plane

As you can see in you're timeline you're "traveling back in time" if you're editing existing sketches. Everything is set to that point in time. It's an expected behavior.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that when I am editing a sketch I am going back in time. But when I redefine a sketch plane, my understanding is that this happens at the end of the timeline, as a new step. Therefore, I would expect the behavior to be that the sketch moves to the selected plane (which was created before the sketch).

Am I still misunderstanding something?

My understanding is that whatever you do with a sketch, you do it at creation time. That makes perfect sense to me, because otherwise the timeline would not be stable.31-12-2019 16-54-31.png

Redefine Sketch Plane edits the sketch plane at the point it was created not as a new feature in the timeline. I would also advise against using redefine sketch plane as it breaks all projections and converts then into locked geometry so they no longer update.

Copying a component from one file to another will cause sketch planes to be lost if they're not based on one of that component's origin planes or faces.  Defining sketch planes relative to the sketch component geometry will lead to fewer lost reference plane errors.
