Sketch line that goes out in two directions.

Hello,

Typically when I am creating a sketch line I select the start point and end point. I want to create a line that you select the center and the line goes out in two opposite directions. Is there a shortcut or option for this?

Thanks!

You can do this by constraining your lines. Constrains of choice could be

  • Midpoint
  • Symmetry

Both are shown in this screencast:

Thank you for the quick response, that is not what I was looking for but I think it's a better way to do it than what I had in mind. Thank You!!!

Hello @svanwhy

Another way I can think of is to use midpoint constraint between a line and the given point. This way the length of the line on both sides of the point will always remain the same even after adding dimensions or dragging endpoints.

I have attached my screencast as the reference.

I hope it will be useful.

Thank you,

Best Regards

Rohit Bapat

P.S.

I forgot to make the point fully constrained during screencast'ing. With fully constrained midpoint dragging will happen around that point.

Seems like I missed it completely hehe Smiley Tongue

@Anonymous sorry for spamming. Please ignore my reply as it is a duplicate suggestion.

Thank you,

Why not just cut to the chase and provide this as an option when creating a line? Wouldn't that be a nice feature that saves users' time?

Yes, I totally agree...!!! I have been looking for this function for a long time. Of course, there are a lot of workarounds that get it done which I also have been using, but I find that about 50% of the time I am drawing a line that I would like for it to extend from the middle in both directions... - just like center rectangle, etc, etc, etc...

Exactly, James, there are workarounds but they're relatively inelegant, clumsy, time-consuming. So why not just cut to the chase and give us this feature, Fusion team?
