sketch - issues with popups and no automatic constraints...

is there some way to switch off this popup, or atleast delay it? so far as i can tell this only started after the last update, and its infuriating as it seems to pop up after only half a second or so, often getting in the way of normal work (it also follows the curser unless i move it well away from the objects in question, which is doubly annoying).

Secondly, is there a way to have lines or other sketch elements (like a center to center slot) automatically create constraints like 'coincident' if they're created 'attached' to a different sketch element, like a line? I quite often need to put in half a dozen or more lines etc and its time consuming to have to add each coincident constraint one by one after having created all the lines... hoping there's a setting somewhere i cant find.

thanks!

Hi @Anonymous,

To address the first issue - this is a menu that pops up if you hold your Left Mouse Button. This menu is particularly useful when it comes to selecting faces, lines, etc. that are not hidden underneath geometry. Does this menu pop up at other times besides when you are holding your LMB or does it just never go away?

For the second question - Lines when snapped to one another should automatically create a coincident constraint. To test this, create a sketch and draw a line. Then draw another line and snap it to the first lines end point (denoted by a square box when you go to click). Now, left click that point (the intersection of the two lines) and then right click it. You should now see an option that says "Delete Coincident Constraint". This also applies if you were to snap the second line to any point along the first line (denoted by an X symbol when you go to click). Is this not what you are seeing?

Thanks,

Hi james,
yes, the first issue occurs regardless of my left mouse button state. just hovering causes the menu to pop up...

the coincident seems to work, but only for lines. I've been having issues with things like center point circles being started at the end of a line not being created coincident, or if i draw a center to center slot, it wont become coincident in the same way a line would (ie the coincident constraint is not created despite the appearance of the X before clicking...)

Hi @Anonymous,

Are you using some hardware that you can unplug and test? For instance are you using a space mouse/key mapper or some type of peripheral that may be causing the clicks to get confused? As far as the coincident thing goes I am curious to see what is happening there. Can you capture a screencast (download link here) so I can see that happening as well as send me the test file that you created the screencsat with. I just want to what the program does and if I can reproduce the behavior just in case this is a software issue or a machine specific issue.

Thanks,

sorry for the late reply here...

no special keys or hardware is being used other than a gaming mouse (logitech g700). however the issue (popup menu) has gone away after a restart of the program. I'd tried this (restarting) earlier, so im not sure what was causing it.

The other issue with constraints persists... ive uploaded a short vid of it below. here i was working on a proejcted sketch, with a few 'offset' objects having been created, as these seem to consistantly cause the issues I've described earlier, though they do occasionally happen elsewhere, seemingly at random.

You can see in the vid i try to create a slot between the two circles, yet despite the appearance of the O at each end, the constraint is never created. You can also see that draging the point away from the center of the cirlce and then back again doesn't 'create' the constraint either (though weirdly, this does work sometimes). The use of offset objects in the sketch does seem to cause this issue to crop up more, though it does happen elsewhere, most notably when trying to make a line between the edge of two circles that is tangential to the curve... you can hold shift at one end (the 'start' of the line, which seems to work fine) but often creating one at the other end (the 'end' of the created line) doesn't always create the tangential constraint (despite the 'tangential' symbol poping up before clicking)

hope this helps, cheers.

edited to fix screencast.

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for sharing that. Do you mind sharing that file with me? What happens if you click that offset constraint, delete it, and then go and create that line? Does the coincident constraint seem to be automatically generated now? Also, what happens if you manually select conicident constraint and apply it to the end of the line and the center point of the slot? Does that seem to work?

Thanks,
