Single line text on Compound surface

Any idea on how I can put single line text on the highlighted surface?  I need to wrap some lines and numbers all the way around. Think Micrometer handle. There will be places for numbers or lines. I was able to do it with 40 separate planes and regular text and then extrude into part, but that made "Trace" cut edges of lines or outlined the text. I only have positional 4th axis so when in cut the lines and numbers I would like to uses the trace comand for its ability to deal with the changes in z heights.

thanks,

Dan

You did not supply your model so I created one of similar shape.  Text can be anything your desire, as long as it fits.  You can also sketch lines in any direction as needed. If you need a Screencast of what I did, let me know.  Model is attached.

Like This ?

I am using the emboss command on a secondary cylindrical surface of a solid body.
Then I use that body as a splitting tool for the conical surface.

Afterwards the push/pull tool is used to emboss the text. Works the same as debossing just in the negative direction.

Hi,

Single line Text isn´t possible with the emboss tool.

Maybe there is a workaround that will make it on a sheet metal body?

Yes, the issue is single line text. I have had success using "regular" text but am after single line text. Text that ends with file extension .shx.

I would be interested in a better way that making 40 separate planes, but really want single line text.

thanks guys, been trying to get this for a while now, need some help.

If I can get the sketch of single line text on model I do not need to extrude it in, just run the trace pathway on it, I believe.

I used the sheet metal method to wrap the text around the cone shape in the first post.  I order to get the text to follow the sheet metal method, it has to be made into a feature, either a cut or a solid, but it cannot work with just a sketch as it is not part of the material.  I cannot find a SHX font that will be recognized by either any command and create a new body, cut or surface.  They seem to work but disappear once you say OK.  So I do not see a solution to your request using a SHX font, I hope others will be able to teach me a new trick.  Murphy's Law says that now I have written this, there will be five solutions posted within the hour!

Hi John,

My idea was after the font is converted to curves by Explode to extrude a face and connect it with a sheetmetal element.

But a first try failed.

Exploding the text is the only way Fusion 360 is going to recognize it.  I have also found that numbers, which he is going to use the most, their profile is not even found.  I am sure you are going to have to remove the Fixed sketch constrain after exploding, that seems to be a requirement.  I wish you luck and I will look for your successful post.

Well I found Murphy's hiding place and had him tell me to get an SHX font to work I had to both explode it and then take off the resulting Fixed sketch constraint.  I am not convinced it will help you for two reasons.  The text is raised, it is 0.010" tall and 0.001" wide.  You can change it using the marked timeline item.  Also the SHX fonts are unpredictable, especially the numbers and you indicated you want to use a lot of them.  I am using the CDM.SHX font.  Let me know if it is useable or not.  Model is attached.

Thank you for the effort, I downloaded the file and look into it in the morning.  I am hoping it will work, I may have to get my buddy to do it in solid works or mastercam. I was hoping there was just something I was no seeing, but doesnt seem to be the case. Let you know in the morning. again, thanks for the effort!!!
