Simple step by step written tutoring for making parametric box?

Can someone point me to a simple step by step tutorial on making a parametrically constrained box with a hole in it?

I'm very close to success, but I can't seem to input words  my where the dimensions would go ( I get a message that I will override constraints by entering anything)...

Thanks!

Hey @randyl100 ,

As a beginner, this guide will help you: https://tesreg.com/how-to-start-with-fusion-360/

there are dozens of ways to do this.  We'd need more info on what you want your box/hole to look like.  Do you want the box centered on the origin, or one corner on the origin, or offset from the origin?  Do you want the hole to be centered on a face, or offset from one side?  Would the hole be on the start face, the end face, or one of the side faces? Etc, etc.

The basic idea is:  Don't use the Box command if you want it to be parametric.  Here is a way to create a parametric box with a centered hole:

  1. create a sketch
  2. draw a rectangle
  3. dimension the rectangle sides, and offset from the origin
  4. Extrude the rectangle
  5. use the Hole command
    1. pick the center of the face
    2. set the hole diameter and depth

But, there are lots of varieties of this depending on what you want the result to be, what parameters you want to be able to modify, etc...

Below video is basically what I'm trying to do...
I can't seem to input words like "length" inplace of dimensions the way
presenter does, so I must have a setting or something incorrect...

There is your step by step instructions, step through that video.

If you follow all of that video, it works.  So which bit did you get stuck on?

To add the name of a parameter it has to exist in the Change / User Parameters list.

This list can be prepared before making the sketches if you know what you want.

Might help...

I set up the table in the change parameters menu with all the names...
I could not assign those names to the dimension lines the way he did...
He gave me the message that I would override even modified existing
dimension...
Also, it would not autocomplete the names I defined in the table, as his
did.

with all the names... and values that make some sense?

Will need to see your file then,

File > Export save to hard drive and attach in the section below here.  Attachments paper clip icon.

I want to be able to control the box's L, W and H  as well as the center point of my circle , all by typing in numbers from the Parameters...

I don't know how to assign L,W and H to the dimensions of my  box...

@davebYYPCU  is asking for your model, not the pics.  not much we can do with those.

here is an example file.  seems to work fine. try it out.
