Sheet Size / Remove Sheet / Projected View

I'm trying to create plans for my 91" wingspan model airplane.  Not a typical engineering drawing, these are used by modelers to build the kit directly over the plans.  I can fit the wings in a standard sheet size, but the fuselage is too long.  I already know Fusion can't create a custom sheet size, so I plan to save the drawings as dwg and edit in AutoCAD LT.

  1. When imported into AutoCAD, AutoCAD still shows the sheet w/border that I don't want; white sheet with gray background everywhere else.  The border isn't the offensive part, it's the sheet size - just needs to be longer.  I can see at least two ways of taking care of this:
    1. Can the drawing in Fusion360 be made without a sheet?
    2. If not, how do I edit the drawing in AutoCAD LT to remove the sheet?  I THINK I've found out how to change the gray background color, but not how to get rid of or edit the white sheet.  Screenshots are attached, one from Fusion and one from AutoCAD LT.  (Yes, this is better addressed in the AutoCAD LT forum, but  I can't figure out what to search on.  Suggestions appreciated.
  2. I could use a projected view that's not orthogonal.  My wings have 2° dihedral and so I don't need a top view, I need a projected view that's 2° off from a top view.  Is there any way to do this?  Right now I've fudged by doing a section view, but that will still leave me doing a lot of editing in AutoCAD.

Thanks,

David

You should be able to export the layout and create a new paperspace in AutoCAD. The solution in the above thread explains the process.

I think I would start there since you have AutoCAD.

Hi David,

In AutoCAD or LT you can't delete the sheet.  You probably want to start with the PAGESETUP command. Select Modify..,> Specify an appropriate Printer/Plotter (or PDF) > click Properties > Under User-defined Paper Sizes & Calibration, you'll see Custom Paper Sizes > Add.  This will launch a wizard which will walk you through the process.  Once you're done there, you can select that new sheet size in the Page Setup dialog.

Another option if you have Windows AutoCAD or LT, use EXPORTLAYOUT which will copy all the paper space objects to Model space in a new drawing.  Now you've just got your 2D geometry with no sheet/border in model space. You can EXPLODE the blocks here if you want to edit things further.

For the 2nd question, if there is geometry in the model which is orthogonal to the plane (no pun intended) you want, in the design use "Look At" (button at the bottom of the screen) and select that face.  Once you have the orientation you want in the design, right-click Named Views in the browser then select New Named View.  Save your design. Now when you place the view in the drawing, you can select that named view for the Orientation.

Hopefully this gets you going in the right direction...

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks both Chris and David.  I found a way (or maybe two) to edit the sheet size in LT, as well as editing the block to get the border to fit the new sheet size, so I think I'm good there.

Chris, I'll give the "named view" approach a try when I get a chance and get back to you.  It sounds like that approach will work.  Can I use construction planes to define these views?

Thanks,

Daid

Hi David,

Yes, that will work.  Glad you got the drawing size/sheet issue sorted out.

Thanks,
Chris
