Sheet Metal Help

  Hello everyone,

Brand new to Sheet Metal so try not to laugh on how I did this, it's kind of tricky. Any suggestions on a better way would be great.  On the right side of this, ( let's say trough ) I can't get a flange to start for the hole pattern to create mounting holes like on the left side.

 Thanks, Robert

You violated one of the rules of sheet metal.  As the video shows, you extruded the flange which kills the sheet metal properties moving forward for that side.  You can use Extrude to shape an existing flange but not create it.   I did the sample extrude in the folded state, most often this process is done in the Unfolded state.

I'm going to clarify what @jhackney1972 said a bit.  The issue isn't that you can't create a flange off an extrude flange ( I do that all the time), it's that you used extrude to another object, creating an edge face that wasn't perpendicular.  here you see the angle isn't 90deg.  flange tool won't work under those conditions-

Split Body was used to ensure that the problem area was at right angles.

Flange processing is then possible.

incase your interested in an alternate method:  When flanges start going at odd angles, I sometimes find it easier to create a solid body and convert it to sheet metal after.  You'll note in the attached that the dimensions of the object is controlled entirely by the first 3 sketches.   adjust sketch dims to change size.  no need to dig around and find the right flange or extrude feature.
