sharing Assets and Cam Tool libraries

I'm trying to setup a shared tool library that can be edited and pulled from by multiple users at once. Is solidworks with HSM we could add a networked drive to the Cam Tool Library and pull from it. There doesn't seem to be a way to add a folder into the Fusion 360 Cam Tool Library. It seems like this features should be built into Fusion 360 with assets through A360 but I can't share assets for some reason. I've enabled cloud libraries in settings and can access jobs from the cloud but Assets don't seem to share. If this isn't a feature yet, would there be a way to add the ability to add a folder to the CAM Tool Library so we can still keep sharing and editing tools on the network drive? This is an essential feature for our workflow.

Thanks

Hi @Billy.conturo

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Online Community - thanks for posting!

It looks like you would like to share CAM assets between so that you can allow multiple users to edit a shared Tool Library in Fusion 360. This can currently only be done when working on a Team Hub in Fusion 360. Are you working in a team hub? If so, the Assets folders should be linked to the hub rather than individual users and everyone in the hub should have access to edit and pull the shared tool libraries (in Assets> CAMTools).

If you are not working with a team hub, you could consider signing up for one!

I would like to see the ability to share Assets with other Fusion users as well - if you would prefer to not start a team hub to share tool libraries I would recommend posting on the Fusion 360 Ideastation - you'd have my vote!

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

@paul.claussMcan yoou verify that this works through a team hub website ?

that website Michu offer enough information for a college undergrad, but for professionals that need features it falls short of expectations!

@Billy.conturo As far as I understand each user that needs access to a team hub needs a subscription $120 for a yearly subscription.

Hi @TrippyLighting

Unfortunately you cannot verify that CAM assets are shared over a team hub on the website I linked - CAM assets are relatively new to Fusion and it does not look like they are mentioned anywhere on the site. I can, however, verify that assets are shared in a Team hub from personal experience.

I agree that we could include more information on that site, particularly with regards to shared assets - I see them as a major advantage to Team hubs at their current site. I will pass your comments along to the Team Hubs group - feel free to let me know if there is anything particular that you would like to see included at the site.

For Fusion enthusiasts needing a team hub, you may either subscribe monthly ($15/month/user) or yearly ($120/year/user).

I have team hub and cannot share assets. It seems strange that HSM works (autodesk cam) for solidworks has the ability to add any folder to the tool library and that functionality is missing in Fusion. Is this a bug? Why take that feature away for the users working in a pure autodesk software environment. The cloud assets would just be a bonus. Right now I'm further from what I need than before.

Hi @Billy.conturo

Thanks for the response! Are you an Editor in your team hub? I just tested this on my end and found that if I upload a new version of a tool library or post processor to the correct assets folder in a team hub (either through the Data Panel or the A360 Dashboard for the team hub), my team members will be able to see the new version of the tool library or post processor in the correct assets folder while working in the team hub.

There is no special sharing command or step for doing this, you simply upload a template/post/tool library (any asset) to the correct assets folder in either your Fusion 360 Data Panel or you A360 Dashboard in a web browser.

I also found that you can right-click in the Libraries manager in the Tool Manager and add a file from your computer - it just takes two steps. Right clicking an existing library and selecting "Import Tool Library" will add tools saved locally on your computer to the existing tool library you clicked. To add a new folder to the Libraries manager, please right click any existing library and select "New Tool Library." You can then use the "Import Tool Library" option to add tools from your computers file browser to the newly created tool library.

This workflow can be a hassle because it takes two right-clicks instead of one - "New Tool Library" and "Import Tool Library" to the newly created library, rather than simply adding a folder with one click.

Using this technique within your cloud libraries will also add the new tool library to your CAM Assets > CAM Tools folder. I have shown this in the screencast below - please feel free to let me know if you have any questions!

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm going to tinker around with the team hub a little bit more.

Adding a new folder in the Cam tool library and then importing a tool library doesn't constantly update that tool library. It's a just

one time import that pulls tools from a library. HSM can add an entire browser folder. That updates the contents of that folder as it's changed. For example, if that folder is on a networked drive and I add a tool that I just setup to a library then anyone with that folder in their Tool Library will see the update with the new tool and keep everyone on the same page.

Hi @Billy.conturo

Thanks for the response! Because Fusion allows for the use of Cloud tool libraries, only those libraries are updated for all members of a team hub - this is because the Assets folders are shared across the entire teams hub (via the cloud).

When working in Fusion in a Team Hub, think of the "Cloud" section of the Tool Library as your networked drive (and the folder you added for it) in HSM. Instead of being linked through your networked drive, the tool libraries in Fusion are shared through the CAM Assets folders for the team hub.

Folders/libraries added under the "Cloud" parent folder are linked to the CAM Assets for the entire team hub - so if you edit a tool in one of these libraries in Fusion, the changes will be updated in every member of the team hubs cloud library when they refresh their CAM Tool Assets folder in the Data Panel or reopen Fusion 360 (they will see a new version of the Tool Library in the Data Panel when a team member makes changes).

Using the "Import Library" command described in my last post should allow you to add a locally saved library from your computer to a cloud library, which will share it to all members of the hub. To then ensure updates are pushed to every member of the team hub you will need to make any edits to the cloud tool library within the Tool Manager in Fusion.

You are correct in that you cannot add a new high level folder linked to your network drive in the library tree - it only provided a one-time import. However, using cloud libraries in a team hub should allow you to create Tool Libraries that are updated for each team member anytime a change is made.

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions - I am happy to assist.

I've got the Team Hub setup for my group and we have started making tool libraries already. It seems to be working great!

So adding a high level folder to the tool library is intentionally not available.  It seems like adding a networked level folder to the Tool Library could still be useful even though the cloud capabilities are there. Sometimes it's nice to keep files internal and still be able to share things.

Thanks for all the help and information.

Hi @Billy.conturo

I agree that it is nice to be able to add a networked folder - I am unsure of why this is not available in Fusion. My instinct would be that the cloud translation process requires the tools to be in a .json or .tools file rather than in a folder.

I'm glad to hear that the cloud libraries are working out! Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
