Sewing or stitching in a piece of cloth

Hi everybody! I'm designing a piece and one of the parts is cloth. This cloth is sewed and I need to make something with the appearance of thread. I thought about something like a dashed line, but I don't know how to do it. Specially, how can I adjust the thickness and length of the dashes? Any idea? I would like a similar effect to the one that you can see below.

Dashed "line" ?

Model just the visible part of one thread and then pattern it along a path.
