Setting dimensions in a drawing

Hi,

I've got yet another few frustrating notes for the drawings in fusion 360.

1. im unable to determine the material thickness when the line is in angle. Added a solidedge drawing for an example. Any ideas how to get those dimensions? (aligned dimension doesn't seem to work)

2. The smallest dimension font size 2.5 is still too big. Any ways to get it even smaller ?

3. The dimension line starts way too far. when having really detailed parts, its really hard to distinguish where the dimension was taken.

Hi Raido,

For the aligned dimension, provided those lines are parallel, you should be able to get the aligned dimension with the Dimension tool by selecting the lines themselves, not snapping to the endpoints:

We don't currently have the ability to decrease the text height past 2.5mm or the offset of the dimension extension lines from the end of the geometry.  What view scale are you using?  Can you increase it (double-click the view to edit)?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Those lines are paralleel but the aligned dimension tool does just manages to clip to the ends of the lines not the lines itselves. So it'll give me dimension with a wierd angle.

Some more info about the problem. Turns out that im unable to select 2 lines on that figure. When I use linear or aligned dimension fusion only allows me to select points at the end of the lines.

When i use the automatic dimensioning tool (D). I can select lines, but it only shows me the horisontal distance between 2 points. Although setting those measurements on the sketch works.

Linear and aligned dimension select points - thats what the quick-help says that appears if you select the command (so this is "as designed")

Dimension (D) also let you select edges/objects.

Are you sure that the projected geometry really creates a straight line-object - and that these two lines really are parallel?

Maybe you can share your model here.

Maybe you can create your own simple "test-case" that looks like my example? It is just a cylinder (extrusion of a circle). If it works, then your Fusion360-system/installation should be ok and then there might be something wrong with your original geometry (as mentioned in my first reply).

If it does not work - then something might be wrong with the system.

I've done alot of drawings already and usually that kind of dimensioning works just fine.

My current one just doesn't seem to accept lines.

I am having the same issue but I figured it out! 

Issue:

When using linear measurement I can only selects points rather than the whole line.

What I seem to have figured out is that if there is an arc or a non flat surface the edge lines are then classified as a spline which then cannot be selected as a linear measurement. For some reason it also created a spline out of any adjacent face edges.

Work Around:

Delete value of dimension and replace with Text of the measurement desired. (Yes if you modify the model the drawing will have to be updated.
