What do you mean by "create". Do you want to machine the gears from metal or 3d print them or is this a design you want to replicate?

Hello @etfrench,
no, not at the Moment, i want to create a Contactset, but it doesn't work as aspected.
I have found this Learning Season: http://www.learningfusion360.com/lesson-4-modelling-a-gear/
I have tested, but when i move the "Gear" after created the contactsets, the "Gear" will slide over the trackshoes 😞
regards
Stefan
Contact sets don't work reliably on something as complex as gears interfacing with a chain. Forget animating this in Fusion 360.
Hi @TrippyLighting,
i have found another answer from you, where you are say, that you will use for this animation Blender,
can i easy transfer my Track to Blender, or must i recreate all my Design in Blender ?
I want to check for Design issues, bevor i will this Track create on my CNC-Mill.
Regards
Stefan
You can export as .stl and use that in Blender. However, if you have no experience in Blender you'll have a steep learning curve ahead of you.
what is the uslimate goal with that design ? Is this something you want to physically make or is it for visual representation ?
Also, Stefan, dein User Name hat mich ja jetzt doch neugierig gemacht. Ich kenne Kater Mikesch nur noch von der Augsburger Puppenkiste. Aber dass ist laaaaaange her 😉
Hallo Peter,
Stefan
Hello @TrippyLighting,
yes, i want to create a Model from this, it is a M113 Tank in modelscale 1/5
I have here in my living room a BZT PFK 1203 PX

Stefan
In that case I'd focus on an accurate CAD model and not on animating it. I've had a passion for computer graphics for 2.5 decades and certainly love a good rendering or animation, but the ultimate satisfaction for me is still holding something tangible in my hands that I have designed!
Good Morning @TrippyLighting,
yes, that is right, the animation is only for testing the track, so i will see that all will work smooth bevor i milling the parts.
The finished Tank will be maybe 1 Meter long and a width of 500 cm, maybe 40-50 Kg of weight, so one Hand will not reach
regards
Stefan
I think, that I can check it using Inventor's Dynamic Simulation.

Hi Stefan,
you can place a STEP or f3d here in the forum, or you can email it directly to wh@holzwarth-cad.de
There's not very much risk with showing my email. I'm already getting some garbage all day long ..

What about using a Motion Link to define the relationship between the rack and the gear and then use a little Python script to drive the animation like shown below?
import adsk.core, adsk.fusion, adsk.cam, traceback import math def run(context): ui = None try: app = adsk.core.Application.get() ui = app.userInterface des = adsk.fusion.Design.cast(app.activeProduct) root = des.rootComponent driveJoint = root.joints.itemByName('Drive') for i in range(1440): revMotion = adsk.fusion.RevoluteJointMotion.cast(driveJoint.jointMotion) revMotion.rotationValue = revMotion.rotationValue + (math.pi * 0.001) adsk.doEvents() except: if ui: ui.messageBox('Failed:\n{}'.format(traceback.format_exc()))
Good morning,
mp4 in Zip of movement along 108 degree of wheel is attached. I've slowed it down for better watching.
I think, in real life the chain will not move as smooth as in video, because of existing backlash between wheel and chain.
Walter Holzwarth
Good Morning @wh,
very thanks for the Video!
Yes, you are right, i must make the gear teeth thinner. While if the fx: 94,564 are smaller so the gearwheel will connect the trackshoes, it will crash an all ends 😉
regards
Stefan
Hi Stefan,
I'm looking at it this way:
The wheel has 10 teeth. They need to match the distance of the chain, so after a 360 degree turn of the wheel 10 chain members must have passed.
So you get the working diameter of the wheel, as shown in the video.
I've created the assembly for myself from the parts, that you sent me. If your assembly has another working diameter, then it's a different situation.
Best way would be placing your f3d or STEP assembly here in the forum, then other members can comment it, too.
