Screen Center Shift Between Model and Animation Modes

I've been trying to make a video of my Falcon ornithopter model, a video that has both joint rotations and animated position-translations. To that end, I'm using my AVS video editor to capture the screen action in both the Modeling Mode and Animation Mode. The plan is to then blend the two in a common video.

For this to work properly, the registration between the images when shifting between the modes must be really accurate and I've been going to great lengths trying to set them up to have exactly the same sizes and orientations.

It's not working out.

What I've discovered is that, all else being equal, the screen-center cross-hairs shift by a considerable amount when switching between the two modes. I've attached a couple screen shots showing this. This shift, in turn, leads to all sorts of subtle (but quite noticeable) and not-so-subtle registration errors when trying blend the sequences into a common video.

So, my questions is: Is it possible to define a default view-center, camera angle and zoom level that I can go back to and which is the same for both the Model and Animation modes?

Hi @Anonymous,

Thanks for posting!

Unfortunately you cannot define a common view center, camera angle, and zoom level across the modeling and animation workspaces in Fusion 360. I found that I could reduce the jump by eliminating the design history at the bottom of the screen in the Model workspace by entering Direct modeling mode, but there is still a small shift in part position. You could try submitting this idea to the Fusion 360 Ideastation, where users can submit and vote on future product features!

There could be some video editing post processing tools you could use to resolve this issue, but I have no experience in that area and cannot provide any perspective or recommendations.

Hi Paul Clauss,

Thanks for the information. At least I know I'm not overlooking something. Your discovery that you could reduce the jump by eliminating the design history is actually quite useful for other reasons as well. It gives me more clear screen area to include in the screen captures and thus getting somewhat greater resolution in the resulting video.

Much appreciated.
