Rounding edges

Hello I am beginning to learn CAM and have just moved from Sketchup to Fusion 360.

I am trying to take a 3D rectangle for example, and not just round the edges but add a half circle edge all around the sides of the rectangle. In sketchup I would draw a half circle face perpendicular to the rectangles side axis and the use the follow me tool to draw the half circle profile all around the rectangle.

How can I do this in Fusion 360? If I just round the edges with a large enough radius perhaps they would meet and create a 180 degree half circle...but that would also push into the dimensions of the rectangle surface making it smaller. I would like to keep the rectangle face dimensions unchanged and just add the rounded mounding to the outside.

Have you tried the fillet tool on the modify menu or are you after something different?

You can edit posts it's under options top right of each post. There is a time limit on edits though.

I have attached a jpg screenshot of what I am trying to do.

In image 1 my rectangle face is 100x50x30mm.  I applied a fillet to the edges at half of the thickness (15mm) so that they would meet and create a half circle.  This appears to be seemless but as you can see the original flat part face of the rectangle has become less because of the fillet.

Would I have to extrude / push pull all my sides by an additional 15mm to maintain my original 100x50 face ?  There has to be a more eloquent way of adding a top and bottom connecting fillet / rounded connecting edge to the outside dimensions.

btw is there a way to insert an image into the body of a forum post ?

You can simulate the method you first describe, with Sweep Command, 

Draw semicircle / any closed profile within reason, square to a face, and use top face's edge as the path, use join for adding material to the block.

Personally if I wanted a fully rounded part that's 130x80x30 I'd start by drawing my box that size. If you make a sketch and extrude for the box it easy to edit the sketch and change the box size later. There are ways to add the fillet and increase the size but that would be more effort that making the box the correct size and adding the fillet.

Thanks that seems to work for two end edges, but I'm not sure how to get a half circle perpendicular to the other remaining sides.  Is there a way to sweep all around an object by selecting all edges ?

I tried drawing a construction line hoping I could place the circle but it's selecting that face to sketch on.

Would sweep work if the shape edge was curved ?

I thought your solution might be the easiest method to.

But, I guess my questions would be what if I did not have the foresight to expand my box in the beginning to allow for the fillet, is there a way to add a rounded side like using a profile and Follow me tool in Sketchup ?   

For something as simple as this shape your suggestion is easy to draw your shape allowing for fillet contraction from the start.  But what if you create an intricate piece and then decide .... a fillet might be nice here ?

Should work, if you selected all four edges of the top face, tick chain?

works on curved paths as well, if the path is such a shape that the profile you are sweeping becomes self intersecting, you will get errors.

The rounds on the "side" of the model (that completely consume the side faces), are something that Fusion cannot do today.  Internally, we call this type of fillet a "full round" fillet.

However, that is being planned as an enhancement for later this year.  Until then, any of the techniques suggested here will have to do...

I tried adding a fillet to the attached file but received errors.  I'm guessing there are overlaps with the curved paths.  Perhaps your sweep method will work on an object with curves like attached.

The problem is the ends of your spline are not tangent to the curves it's joined to. In the attached file I just added tangent constraints.

Im a real beginner when I clicked on your file to open temp, nothing appeared in my fusion 360.  I tried downloading it to my desktop then uploading it through Fusion but the file is just spinning to upload.

Can you direct me to a good tutorial that explains drawing curves / splines to tangent ?  I first drew a box , then selected a corner point of the box and then drew my spline and ending on what I thought was the opposite corner.  I then push pulled both the rectangle and the spline shape up.  I'm guessing they automatically join together because there was no rectangle edge after I pulled up.

I only fixed the first body in your file. Looking at the second one Fusion doesn't want to fillet with a full round, not sure if it's because of the area where the fillets overlap. The only way I could get it to work is to fillet one side, cut the other half away then mirror and combine. This is what's known as over building, it can be useful where fillets run out of parts. I tried just making the part 0.25" thick and filleting but that failed.

Here's a screencast fixing both bodies, the file's attached. If you're making more than one part in a design take a look at the Rule #1 thread and create self contained components for each part. It makes managing multi part designs a lot easier.
