Rotating view from point of click?

Anonymous

Hi Again,

Is there a way to make it so that when you spin/rotate a model, that you're actually using the point that you click, as the point of rotation, much like is SolidWorks default behavior?

Currently, it rotates around an automatically predetermined green point - which I assume is the center of volume.

But, when I zoom into something, say the tip of a pencil, for example, and I want to get a closer view, I'd like to spin around the now zoomed in upon pencil tip, or other feature I'd like to view. Instead, I have to deal with the now off-page point predetermined point of rotation to work with, and will end up having my entire model flip out when I make what I would consider a 'normal' movement. Which means now I have to zoom out, and start over spinning the model again to get a decent view.

Is there a way to do this?

Thanks,

-Alex

Hi @Anonymous,

You need to click on the Shift key and the middle mouse.

That's what I'm doing - though it's just the middle mouse button with the SolidWorks configuration, however that doesn't fix the problem that I was describing, it simply gives rotation.

Every time you want to change the focus on a different spot, you need to re-click the Shift + mouse middle button.

If it's annoying you, then you better get yourself something like this:

Another thing you can do, is Right click anywhere and Set Orbit Center.

I think the problem stems from the shape of the model, assuming you're actually trying to rotate around the point of a pencil. When using the "Solidworks" rotation setting and clicking the middle mouse button, it looks like Fusion is trying to snap the rotation point to the nearest vertex or edge. If you don't have the cursor exactly over the point of the pencil, the rotation point snaps to something off screen.

On non-pointy models, the rotation point is set fairly close to the point I clicked.

Thanks for the work arounds.

It still seems extremely strange that you have to forcibly change the orbit of rotation, rather than it happening on each middle click automatically.

I too, more than once, would like to precisely rotate my work to create a home view.  As a design evolves I paint myself into a corner with feature placement.  The easiest thing to do is create a new home view to aid visualization...but alas it is not possible.

You can't change the Home view, but you CAN create saved views and return to them whenever you want.

Yeah, I know that.  But if I cannot create a precise view, what value does it have to save it?  The root question is to create a precise view.  Is there a way to create a view off of a construction plane?

Oops! I was wrong. You CAN change the Home view...

And you can set up a constructed plane, use the Look-at tool to orient on it, and then either set the Home view OR create a Named view in the Project Browser.

Had this exact same problem recently and what worked for me was to double click with the middle mouse button on the point about which I want to rotate my view.
