Rigid Group Help

Hi guys,

I see there are plenty of other topics on Rigid Group fails, btu unfortunately it still isn't working for me.

I used to use Rigid Group for modeling a few summers ago and swore it worked fine. In this case, I have a small assembly called RasPi_Camera, it includes two subcomponents. I'm making an assembly of that and one grey mounting block. I bring the Raspi_Camera in, right click on it, and select "Rigid Group (include subcomponents checked"). I can't even click OK. So I open up the Raspi_Camera assembly, select its two components, and right click and create a Rigid Group (this is allowed). But still, when I click on a component and drag, or make a joint, the components do not stay together.

Can anyone help? I really need to move quick on a design and this needs to work.

Have to run, so this will be quick.  If it is not clear, let me know, and I'll try  to add more detail.

Unfortunately, there is a bad bug, so that "include subcomponents" does not work.  We are working on this, but it is not yet fixed...

So, what you should do, is start Rigid Group (while editing the top-level design), then just select both of the sub-components manually.  This will create a rigid group, in your main assembly, that does what you want (at least I think it should...).

I apologize for not getting that bug fixed already.

Hi Jeff, thanks for getting back to me so fast. Unfortunately I don't think that works. Previously I tried to open up the assembly, select its subcomponents, then right click and make a rigid group. But still, they don't seem to stick together when I drag or Join.

I am not sure that making a rigid group of parts in a linked assembly works. Chances are that you don't need a linked assembly.

E.g. Purchased parts that never get modifed should not be linked but inserted.

Either way, to make this work you have to select all components in a sub assembly and make a rigid group. Then you need to pick one of the components in the rigid grup and one or more compoent in the upper level assembly and create a rigid group from those.

Some of the info in this YouTube video might help. It's not true that you cannot drag components around in DM mode as the video states but that has nothing to do with this topic 😉

I didn't do a particularly good job of explaing this, I'm afraid.  What @TrippyLighting said is correct:  If you create the rigid group inside the linked sub-assembly, that does not get promoted to the top-level assembly.  However, if you create the rigid group in the top-level assembly, it does work.

oh my. 

that's a really bad bug. 
that's a lot of clicking to select all the screws and washers ... and all in my assemblies.

Hi,

I am new to Fusion 360 but think I have just stumbled across this bug too. I have imported a STEP file that contains hundreds of components and sub components. I would like to make this a rigid group so I can join it as one to another component in my design. Selecting each component in turn may take hours! Do you have any idea when this bug will be fixed or have any other workarounds for this situation?

The team working on this bug has reported it as fixed, and it should go out in the next update, which I believe is scheduled within the next week or so
