revolve angle

Here is a picture of what i am trying to do. I have use the Revolve to create a cut away and i am trying to recreate an angle up. Not sure if the photo load up, I am happy with the cut away, i just want the key way or cut away to go up on an angle towards the big section, if that make sense.

Thank you if some one may be able to help.

Hi @Anonymous,

It looks like your picture did not get attached.  Can you try again?  Also, if you are willing to share the model, that would be an even quicker way to get your question answered.

Thanks for the image.  I'm not entirely sure I understand your request, but here is a first attempt:

If this isn't what you are trying to achieve, I apologize, perhaps just sketching on the image to show the result of what you are trying to do would help.

Sweep a line along curve to get surface body.

Thicken the surface body to remove the material.

Attach your *.f3d file here if you can't figure it out.

Ah...  much clearer now.  I understand what you mean by "angle" now.  This probably needs a sweep of some kind.  Here is one way to do this.  I'm not sure it's the best, but it should maybe give you some idea how to approach the problem.  In this screencast, I ended up with a path that does not intersect the profile, which, as the warning indicates, is not ideal.   It does work, but is not a best practice.  But, you get the idea, hopefully.

I would caution that sweeping a rectangle does not result in the same geometry as sweeping a cylinder (end mill cut) along the curve.

You can check this by placing a pin (cylinder) in the slot and checking for interference.

A thickened swept surface (end mill path) will return the correct geometry.

Very good point. You are correct, the thickened surface results in better geometry. I can do a screencast of this later, if it's not obvious

Here is a screencast doing it the way that @TheCADWhisperer suggests.  This is a great technique, and I'll keep it in my bag of tricks for future use!

Sorry to be a pain. i get most of it. Just the start of it i struggle with, I know i am asking a lot, but a great thing i we keep under my belt. I know you guys have work to do, So thank you again.

I didn't use an angled plane for this.  I just drew a line on an offset plane, and used Project Curve to Surface to get it into a sketch.  Although an angled plane would probably be a better idea, now that you mention it.  Here is how I had to do this:

Hi Jeff, Thank you for taking the time to show me, I was able to do it on one side, but i need to repeat the process 180 side, for some reason it not letting me, I will send a screen shot through.

I get what you are doing now, off set plane, sketching a line on the off set plane and then using the tool to transfer in onto the Org plain to follow the curve of the cylinder, So here a photo.

For some reason You can see that the Angle circus is in complete, so i can not Project on to the cylinder, I have try every thing for hours. I am missing something.

Thank you again
