Representation of a spot welded joint in simulation

Hi,

I'm running a simulation nd was wondering what method I should use to represent a spot welded joint. In the image I've hi-lighted three positions for spot welds which would be used to fix the 'u' shaped cross member to the main sheet metal part.

Thanks,

Andy B

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for posting!

As far as I know, we don't have the Spot Welded joint option yet. but I think if we add the spot points on your model, it would have the simlar results.

Is the result what you want? Please see my video and if I misunderstand, please let me know.

Hi Ahruem,

Thanks for your reply.

Your idea should work and funnily enough it was something I'd thought about
after I posted the question. However, I wouldn't have known how to set up
the study correctly so your response has been very helpful.

This is an image of the model. You can just about see the three 'spot
welds' on the cross member:

And the study results. I deliberately applied a load far beyond what the
design requires to see the effect on the three bonded joints (spot welds).
I also think that the spot welded joints will be less effective in real
world conditions so an additional safety factor will need to be considered:

Thanks and regards,
