Replace linked component?

I uploaded a f3d which unfortunately brought along its own copies of the linked components.

I would like to change these links to point to our "parts" project where we keep all of the parts so that as they are updated, the main project will be as well.

How can I do this?

Thanks in advance,

Alan

unfortunately, Replace Component is not yet supported by Fusion.  The only solution is to Delete or Remove the Insert Component feature, and re-insert the design you want to use instead.

Is there a plan to someday add a "Replace" function?

Yes.  That work is already in progress.  Of course I cannot predict an update when it will be released, but I have seen it working with my own eyes, so hang on just a bit longer...

Set your expectations correctly for this, however.  If you make a replacement component using the original as the starting point, we think that most downstream references (joints, projections into a sketch, etc) will survive, but if you replace a component with a completely unrelated component, expect to have to edit joints, etc to refer to the new geometry.

Hi @alanautodeskN2HS2,

I can be more specific, we have replace for external components coming later this month with the January release.

You will be able to right click an external component in the browser and choose to replace the single instance or choose to Replace All Instances. This will only be available for external components, but will automate the process Jeff mentioned above.

There may be joint repair required depending on what the component is being replaced with, but the amount of time this saves when simply swapping out hardware can be significant.

Watch for the Jan release and let us know what you think. Hope it smooths your workflows.

Thanks,

John
