Rename a component from the Timeline ?

Hello everyone,

I have started to use Fusion360 a couple days ago, and I have a lot to learn.

One little thing : is there a reason why I can't rename a component by right-clicking 'Rename' on the component icon in the timeline ?

I can access the command, type the new name, but this has no effect.

Double-clicking on the component's name in the Browser does work.

Thank you for your help.

Hi @laurent.vidonne,

Thank you for posting! It looks like you can rename command name with Rename option in the Timeline. I hope this helps!

Hello,

Not sure if I understand your suggestion correctly : what I tried to explain in my question is that I've tried renaming a component with the Rename command from the Timeline, but this does not work : the new name is not implemented.

I believe this is a bug. I just tried this myself and you are correct. Fusion 360 allows you to enter a new name into the text field, but when accepting it with the Enter key it does not actually change the name to what was typed into the textfield.

Thank you for your reply. I was wondering if it was just me or what...

It's of course not a major thing as there is an easy way around (double-click on the Component's name in the Browser will work) but it'd be nice if it were fixed. Should I report it somewhere or can I assume that this thread will do the job ?

As I make progress through the design of a rather large/complex (at least for me) machine, I find that I rely more an more on a proper naming convention to keep track of what's going on.

Again, thank you for your help

Hi @laurent.vidonne,

Thanks for finding this.  Nothing more you need to do.  We'll file the bug and get it fixed.

Regarding naming things:  You are absolutely right.  I find that it helps so much to be able to quickly find out which features go with which part of my design, which workplanes define critical geometry, and so on.

Jeff
