Hi @Faraj_Monnapillai

Thanks for posting! Unfortunately, there is no way to delete a branch in Fusion 360 after it was created. This option was considered when branch and merge was being introduced (discussed here), but as the branch and merge preview will be closed it has not been actively developed. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause you - all branches except the master branch will be removed when the preview of branch and merge is ended.

If you do have branches with data you would like to save when the branch and merge preview ends, one way to ensure that no data is lost is to create local archive copies of all the designs in the branch and then re-upload them to the master branch in your Fusion 360 Data Panel. This will create new copies of all the files from the branch and move them into the master.

Hopefully this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi @Faraj_Monnapillai

Unfortunately there is also no way to rename a branch in Fusion - we apologize for this. This was discussed on this thread, but because the branch and merge preview will be ending, the change will not be made.

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! When the branch and merge preview ends, any data in an unmerged branch will be lost. The instructions to back up this data outside of the branch are below.

Before the Branch and Merge preview is fully ended, you will need to merge any branches that you would like to keep back to the master branch. If you cannot merge back to the master branch, you will need to create local copies of the files in the branch and re-upload them to the Data panel in a new project folder (not a branch) or copy the files in the branch you would like to maintain into a new project folder in Fusion 360. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.

I have attached a screenshot of the note in the preview preferences below:bam.png

Hi,

I wanted to add some details to Paul's response.  As he said, our preferred workflow is for you to merge your changes to master but we understand that some customers have started using branches to create variations of a design so we need a way to keep all of the branches.

In one of the upcoming updates, we will offer a copy tool that will give you the ability to copy entire branches into subfolders of the project. So no branch data will be lost and you will be able to continue to work on it after its copied to the project.

Thanks,

Bankim

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for the response! While I am unsure of what messaging the tool @charegb mentioned will include, it is easy to sort out the files that need to be backed up now - everything in a branch other than the master branch of a project will need to be backed up, as branches other than the master branch will be removed when the preview ends. You could use the instructions in my previous email to do so, but it may be easier to wait for the utility tool to be released.

You can find out if a project included branches by opening the top level of the project folders in your data panel and checking the branch dropdown as shown below:Screen Shot 2017-10-24 at 8.23.28 AM.pngI agree that it would be nice to see some messaging around this when the utility tool is released, but cannot comment on exactly how that tool will work as it is still being developed. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.
