Reference a part inside a sketch

I'm trying to reference existing transformers inside my sketch so I can align the mounting holes.

I can't seem to figure how to do this.  I'm sure its simple.  I often need to reference a manufacture supplied part.  I'm sure others do to!

Help please 🙂

First exit the sketch then drag the timeline marker to the beginning of the timeline or just click the leftmost arrow on the timeline controls. Now drag the transformer from the data panel into your design and position, either with a joint or with the move tool. You might be able to use the pattern tool to position the others or just make copies and position. Step the timeline forward and edit your sketch and you should be able to project edges to use in your sketch.

This does not seem to work for me.

I even have tried to drag the reference part into a brand new design drawing and it is not working?

Does the "dragged" part need to be a certain file type?

If you right click the part in the data panel does it have an option to convert to a Fusion Design. It looks like you might have mesh files, Fusion is not the best program if you're working with a lot of mesh files.

It actually had a very simple "Insert into Current Drawing" ! LOL!

I knew it had to be something silly 🙂

Ah OK, I thought drag and drop would be quicker, strange it doesn't work for you.

A quick note for any other newbie ... 

If you want to move the referenced drawing you either need to Right Click and choose "Break Link" or move it in the original referenced drawing and Right Click and choose "Get Latest"

Actually you don't need to break the link. Personally I'd use a joint from the Assembly menu to position an imported component or you can use the Move tool but you have to set the move Object to Component.
