real emission material and reflection

This is what Fusion render does: a fake specular with a glossy reflection of the mesh shape? Even check out the light pattern on the ground? Does Fusion use lights instanced along the surface to simulate an area / emission surface light?

This is what professional tools do: glossy reflection and light emission are the same

I would throw out the current emission material and do it right. What I see here in Fusion reminds me what I did in rendering before we had GI and that is around 10 years ago.

Class, can you give me a copy of this model?  I'd like to run some tests here.

Hello Class,

We're not sure why your're getting those results. Can you please share your model. What luminance did you use for your diffusers. WHen I setup a similar scene using diffusers with 1000cd/m, I get reasonable results. Not completely converged, but the expected result.

Thanks for your feedback,

John

One possibility Class, is that you are hitting a defect with raytracing GUI. Can you confirm that you see a pronounced difference when switching between the "quick" and "advanced" raytracing modes? you wan the advanced mode, but there is an obscure bug that prevents this control from working correctly. Below are screen shots of my scene in the two modes:

Quick mode uses discrete light approximation

And after switching to the "advanced" mode, progressive GI starts

@hutchij I am nit sure if this was a bug or if this is part of a recent update but this works in adv. mode. I do not recale if I used that 3 month ago. But the speed to clear up the noise renders this studio appraoch pointless for desktop computers..

OK, glad it is working in advanced mode. We have work in progress to address performance and noise reduction.

@hutchij That is great to hear. For basic HDRI IBL the approach is sufficient. But when you want to do better renderings well HDRI are just not enough and you need to design a studio like env.
