"To object" extent

Good evening. I've been trying to make, what you may call a mold of a magazine, using a model of one. About 30 minutes ago, I saw this video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjOcNfxs0X4, and tried to apply it to my model. But, it seems that I'm failing in every single attempt.

I want, quite simply a block with the shape of the magazine.

Some pictures of what I'm trying to do follow.

Thank you for all the help, in advance.

I don't think any of the "extrude" types are what you need here.  Either the "Combine" tool, set to cut, or the "Boundry Fill" tool will work better here.  You'll probably have to close up the end first, depending on what type of mold your looking for.

attach your model, might get some more specific help.

You can export your design from the file menu-

Share your model and tell us exactly what you're trying to do

The video you shared is an extrude command with the extent set to object, and with the solution set to minimum

My guess is that this is happening because the profile that you're trying to extrude is bigger then the body it's extruding to

If so, try decreasing the size of the extruded profile so that the boundaries of it isn't going out side the body it's extruded to

Here's a screen cast of what I think your trying to do, maybe it will help you get started.  I spent most of it preparing the model by making it solid.  Don't know if that is what you wanted to do.

I'll note that this may not be the best approach for making a mold because it doesn't really account for undercuts, etc.  (i.e.-going to be hard to separate the part from the mold)
