QUICK TIP ideas?!?

Hey guys and gals,

Aaron here...I work at Autodesk and make a lot of the videos you see on our YouTube channel and elsewhere (along with my coworker Bryce). Anyway, I've learned a great deal by listening and posting here, so I wanted to see if you had ideas to help contribute to our QUICK TIP series.

If you're unaware, they are short 2-3 minutes tips related to things we've learned or struggled with.

Post those ideas here and we'll give you a shout out for your contributions!

Thanks!

@Aaron.Magnin the quick tip videos are great - not much to add to be honest. They are shot good audio and video quality and well informative.

What drives me crazy in other AD videos is often the lack of using proper mics and as a viewer having to listen to massive amount of room echos.

So you switching between perfect audio with screen captures and terrible audios when interviewing or seeing AD employees.

Hi Aaron,

I'm a newbie Fusion too and your videos helped me alot in my journey into Fusion 360.

I would appreciate if you could make a more detailed video about 3D sketching. I have just found out, you can only use Spline for 3D sketching 😞 If I'm wrong, a quick video on how to use other tools for 3D sketches will be very helpful.

Great work.

Ben.

Hi @Aaron.Magnin

Are you interested in doing tips for CAM as well, there are a couple of mistakes that come up all the time and it would be nice to point people to a youtube video.

One mistake\misunderstanding that comes up is misuse of model selection in machining ops. People try and use it to confine toolpaths to a surface\surfaces when they should use a boundary or touch surfaces. Quite often people get away with it for a while then make a post complaining a toolpath's gone through there job.

Another one is using tool orientation in an op when they only have a 3 axis machine. As the setup and setting orientation is the first thing you should do it would be nice to have this explained better.

@HughesTooling Most definitely interested in CAM, SIM, whatever you have! Thanks for writing in and providing me insight!

@Beyondforce You and me both! I'm going to dig into 3d sketches more and see what I can come up with.

@cekuhnen & @Anonymous Thank you for the feedback! Always appreciate it...negative or positive (but the latter is always easier to receive!)

Gooday Aaron,

Agree with the other comments here, very good series,

I think a short series on Loft will help others avoid my self taught trial and errors.

a common request I don't mind helping with is Loft with multiple Profiles, multiple Rails, usually, boats and aircraft related,

please do one on "Project Intersect" command in that context,

A second topic from yesterday, was  when to use the + button, and Chain Select (or not) in the Loft command,

and lastly there were a couple of big threads on surface results, but from those, I figured I need to know more about, "Free, Tangent, Smooth" options in the profile section.

Should give you a nightmare or two.

Thanks in Advance,

Browny

@Aaron.Magnin Here's an example of misuse of model selection in an op, see posts #7and 8.

Based on forum posts:

Lofting is a area that likely several good quick tips could be made on.

Once you've lofted something about how do you judge surface quality eg. heat map, curvature comb and how to use these.

What is g1, g2, g3 curvature continuity ?

T-Splines are very rarely covered.

e.g. techniques how to avoid triangles. I am not even sure there is a single Fusion 360 video tutorial that explains that you even should avoid triangles.

Thanks for the input, @TrippyLighting! Your feedback and lessons have been helpful to me and many others!

Expect to see a QUICK TIP on these subjects sometime in the future.

Freakin' love that you included this real-life example of how selection can be an issue. Thanks @HughesTooling. Added this to the list!

@Aaron.Magnin What I liked about that example was not only was it a good example of misusing model selection but was also one where I could demonstrate the proper use to add a patch to cover the engraving.

@Aaron.Magnin Some T-splines videos would be great as well. Maybe the different modify commands with cases of when it's useful to use one.
