question about sketching and circular pattern

Hi -

 

In sketching, why is it that if I create a circular pattern of points, and then I join the points with a spline sketch, I cannot then move the individual points in the circular pattern like I can with the points in a normal spline sketch?

Hi Betty,

 

I believe that Fusion is behaving this way because of the way the points were sketched.

 

I am assuming that for your workflow, you are sketching a point in space, then creating the circular pattern based off of that single point. From there you are sketching a spline that connects the points and trying to manipulate the position of the points. In this workflow, the position of the points in the pattern are constrained by the radius to the center point of the pattern and the number of instances created when setting the patterns parameters (the command spaces the objects in the pattern equally based on how many objects in the pattern) and therefore cannot be manipulated directly.

 

However, if you attempt to manipulate the original point's position, you can adjust the length of the spline, as the radius of the pattern has not been dimensioned or otherwise constrained.

Hi -

 

Thanks for the reply.

 

What I'm trying to do is create the bunch of points on the circular pattern, and then I wish to move individual points up or down on the perpendicular axis so that I will end up with a wavy or squiggly line that still forms a circle in the original axis.    So, it looks like a way line around a cylinder.   Is there a simple way to accomplish that?
