question about self-intersecting surfaces when converting t-spline body

Hi --

When I convert my t-spline body, I get the error notice about "highlighted surfaces may be self-intersecting.  Try modifying...".

I have two questions  (1)  How do I see the highlighted surfaces because I don't see anything that looks highlighted.  and (2)

What is the best way to unweld adjacent edges?   -- I couldn't find an item for that on the various menu dropdowns.

Thanks

Hi --

Oh wait -- I just found the Modify --> unweld edges command, so I don't need (2) answered 🙂

You should be able to just click on the error message in the dialog, and any self-intersecting faces should show in red:

To untangle the intersections, I find that using Box Mode (in the Utilities -> Display Mode command).  I find it easier to be able to see problems with the surface in this mode, and it's easier to move the edges or vertices apart.

Hi --

n

Thanks for the suggestions.   I was able to find the red highlighted area in one case and I fixed it by welding two vertices.  However, I still got an error, and then I just could NOT see the red mark anywhere.   I tried zooming in as well as I could and I just couldn't find it.  The body I was working with had many edges and faces.    I don't suppose there's some easy trick to finding where the errors are.

Sometimes the self-intersections are very small, and hard to find.  The only trick I sometimes use is to switch to Box Mode in the Display Mode command under the Utilities menu - you can sometimes see the intersections better in this mode, just by seeing where the edges overlap.

If you want to share the file, I'd be happy to take a look at it (though probably not until tomorrow...)
