question about a leather wallet design and how to make it happen

Before I begin I just want to say that I am very new to fusion, and there is a lot I don't know. I have been working on a leather wallet pattern. Many times when making a leather wallet you will have the outer body (which is what shows when the wallet is folded) and the inner body (which has all the pockets stitched to it). The outer body is usually made about an inch or so longer than the inner body so that when you fold the wallet, it will actually have some slack to fold. Both the outer body and the inner body are the same shape and they need to have matching stitching holes. The wallet I'm creating has an inner body that is 3.5inX9.5in (I have already created the inner body and the pockets because there is no bending of material) and the outer body will be 3.5inX10.5in. So my actual question is, how do I create this outer body in fusion? It needs to be attached to the inner body and the stitching holes must line up, but in the middle where the fold will be, the outer body will have to have a bend/concave portion so that the ends of the inner body and outer body match up. This is what I do not know how to create. I will attach my file and pictures of a wallet to show exactly what I am talking about as far as the design I am trying to create. So to reiterate, the only part of the design I have left to create is the outer body that needs to be concave in the middle, with the concave portion only taking up and inch of the material. I need it to be on the bottom of the "inner body" and need to create stitching holes on it that will match with the stitching holes on the "inner body". It would be SO helpful to me to learn how to do this. sample wallet pic.jpeg

Also, I need to add the fact that I will be exporting this design piece by piece or component by component as a PDF. I will be sending each component in PDF format to a laser printer to cut out the individual piece so that I can stitch them up. So I am now questioning if I create the outer body with a bend or concave middle section, when I go to export that component as a PDF, will it continue to have the bend in it? Because I need to print this design as flat pieces. The only reason I wanted to create it in fusion with the bend in it is so I could line up the holes precisely. I know I can create this piece separate from the rest of the design though, so if anyone thinks I would be better off creating it separately please let me know.

The placement of the holes is a challenge for laceing and even more for sewing.

To get very close. Design without holes, make one and then photograph, add photo to design (scaled) and place holes in design.

This is further complicated by the pattern users selection of leather thickness and temper.

I treat the holes as recommendations/guides only. To facilitate that you could add hole numbering.

Did you review my file link in the other thread?

Hide all - everything - but the inner body.

Go back in the timeline to where it is finished but before the mirror command.

create a sketch on the back face of that body, with auto project turned on.

hide all but that sketch.

add a rectangle to this sketch 1/2 inch to the right of the model centre line,

decide about the semi circle cut, and

then make / Extrude > New Body for the outer body half.

mirror this outer body,

combine join it.

Send timeline to the end.

Convert this body to component.

Download DXFer Addin from Github, install it.

This Addin, allows you to select the face if each body, and it saves to one dxf File,

arrange the parts to suit the grain in the leather, in the dxf File.

Or you can use Fusion Manufacture > Arrange command, and save a dxf sketch when done.

Arrange is a command I have not used yet, I use DXFer.

If stuck can update my file tomorrow.

Might help....

Thank you for that explanation. It sounds like a lot and I'm scared I will have trouble, but I'm going to try. You explained it very well, so that should help.

Download my file, the example is there to follow.

You may have to activate the Manufacture Previews, for Manufacture Model and Arrange (both are required)

for you to see all of my version.  I have tested with the Arrange Command, and worked a bit better than DXFer but it will be design dependent for my work.

I'm so afraid to sound dumb by asking this, but when you say "update your file", and "your file is updated", I'm looking for a file attachment or something of that sort. I'm not seeing anything and I really want as much help as possible, so if you could elaborate a bit more I would appreciate it, thanks. If this is a really dumb question, please excuse me, sometimes I will realize later, and totally regret asking.

Last week you had another question,

in that thread, I linked a file for you to download, if you wish.

That file is updated now, and I have copied the link again here.

ooh ok, I'm sorry, and I know you had asked me if I read the reply on my last post, and I thought I read all of them, but apparently I didn't. Thank you for taking the time, it is very much appreciated!

I see your post is from a while back, but I wanted to offer some guidance for your leather wallet design in Fusion 360.
1.To create the concave outer body, follow these steps:
2.Sketch the outer body's shape and add stitching holes.
3.Create a sketch for the concave section, aligning it with the inner body.
4.Extrude the outer body, ensuring it's slightly thicker than the inner body.
5.Extrude the concave sketch into the outer body, forming the bend.
6.Combine both bodies into a single solid.
Also, to get more info, you can check out this blog at https://vonbaer.com/blogs/blog/leather-patina. They offer a ton of useful info on leather work and related stuff.
