Push offset face and lose primary face

Trying to create a pocket in a triangle. So, I created a triangle then a 1 mm offset. Pushed the 1 mm face out  and I lose the original face. Reversed the order and I lose the 1 mm face. What am I doing wrong? Dorga/Willis Power guide no help.

There are several ways to create a pocket in a triangle body.  The screencast shows one where the sketch is at the top of the triangle.  If the sketch is on the bottom, then you can just extrude each section separately.
