puzzle piece creation

learning fusion and trying to understand best way to make items (which will be separate bodies) that are next to each other.. only way i could describe would be a puzzle where each item interlocks with the other. Can anyone share what the best workflow would be to do this as it seems each piece shares the others border lines - how can i make separate extruded pieces from a drawing that has items next to it in a field?

i tried extruding one piece (which required deleting lines next to it ) so i could enclose it and then moving it and now its complaining that the sketch portion is no longer there

i am probably making this harder than it needs to be?

You can just select the closed boundaries for each when you extrude them without deleting any geometry in the original sketch.

Or

You can project the shared boundary to another sketch, then add the geometry in that sketch for the second body.

Or

You can extrude one then select all of the geometry to extrude the second.  Use Combine/Cut to remove the excess from the second.

Or

You can extrude all of the geometry then use the Split Body command to separate the two.

But first read Rule #1.
