Programmatic text content in Sketch Text tool

Hi all,

I'm laying out parts to cut with a CNC machine and would like to add a layer into the CAM for engraving the parts. Using the text tool I can add the text strings to the sketch and use the trace workflow toolpath to engrave the parts

At the moment I'm hardcoding the Component Name by selecting it in the browser tree, clicking as if I were editing the Component Name, then copying it to the clipboard and pasting it into the "text" field below.

Can anyone think of a way to do this, or achieve the same end result by extracting the component name property so that of the component name is changed the text can be updated parametrically?

Can the parameter property be referenced as a variable of some sort?

Perhaps this is a job for a script addiin?

I'll have a look at this.

At the moment my "sketch" is in the Manufacturing workspace, but looks like this I can use in the Design workspace which would be neater of course.

Had a quick look at this tool using the {_.component} parameter that extracts the Component Name.

Trouble is you seem to need a sketch per component for this to work and I have around 250 components...

I'm trying to create a sketch that has the projection of around 30 component faces that I want to label ( think of 30 parts to be cut out of a sheet of plywood )..... So each plywood sheet would have toolpaths of all the labels of the parts.

Unfortunately the menu option of "Change Text Parameters" is not available in the Manufacturing Workspace...
