Problems with revolute joint

Hi folks,

I have been having trouble in creating a properly working revolute joint.  I create the joint origins for each of the two components in the joint.  Then as I try to create the joint when I go to select the components the program forces me to select faces on each component, and it does not let me select the components themselves.  Then when I create the joint it ignores the joint origins that I previously created and it uses the faces I selected to position of the components, which screws everything up.  Also, the first component will not revolve around the second one.  I have provided a video so you can see what is going on:  https://autode.sk/2zoDmfV

(Note:  One question I asked in the video was why I did not have an "as built joint" option.  But I found the answer to that in another post by someone else.  I just turn on "capture design history" and then the "as built joint" option returns.)

Any help will be appreciated.

For a normal revolute joint you don't need to create these explicit joint origins.

When you start the joint process the UI is asking for your to select a face/edge/vertex on each of the components. The sequences of selection can make a difference.

Usually want assemble his to that. So select a vertex, edge, face on "this" and then on "that".

Fusion 360 only allows you to select specific snap points on each edge/face.

Once a snap point is selected you'll see a joint origin symbol attached to it. That's an implicit joint origin. Implicit, because it only belongs to that joint.

Hi Trippylighting,

Thank you for your response and the video.  I did what you described in the video and the component which was supposed to revolve around the other component still did not move when I dragged it.  However, when I turned on the timeline (when I select "capture design history") then it did revolve.  I think that was the key issue.

Your response was helpful because it showed that I need to select the points that the components will revolve around, which was not entirely clear to me before.

Best regards,

Vincent
