Problem re-sizing components

Hi all,

In the attached documented I extruded the main shape and then split the body into the two components.  The idea being they will then be fixed back together via the captive nuts in the face plate.

After I started 3d printing the face plate I realised the gaps between the nuts and the walls are too small and so need to resize the whole thing.  I did a push pull on the long edge faces of the face plate and that has worked fine, but when I try the same on the main case it doesn't pull the corners out with it, and if I do that separately it ends up misshapen.

Have I made a mistake early on thats causing me issues now.  Do I need to start again?  I would also like to move the nuts and bolt holes, but that seems much harder.  I have some construction lines, but they are in one sketch and I cant seem to use them in another

Hi,

just try "MODIFY"  > OFFSET FACE

However, it would be better if you "fix" your basic sketch and fully determine it.
If you use variables in the parameter list, it should then be very easy to make changes.

Notice that there is an unresolved issue highlighted for Sketch2.

You should have stopped there and ask questions.

(And repeated for Sketch3, 4 & 5 and so on...)

Your wall thickness is the radius corners is not uniform, highly unusual and doesn't look aesthetically pleasing.

Many underdefined sketches (blue lines should keep you awake at night).

I recommend that you start over from scratch simply for the purpose of improving technique.

Attach your new file here after each and every step.

In the attached file set the Timeline to the beginning.

Then step through step-by-step.

Make each sketch visible as you go.

Tell me any changes that you want to make and I will explain the easy way.

Now try to reproduce my steps on your own.

Thanks for this, very helpful.  I have started fresh and followed the timeline on your document through.  All seems great, but am stuck on one bit.  I have created the 4 columns for the bolts and am trying to create the hole pattern, but it wont let me select the sketch points of the circles to locate the holes.

What have I done wrong?

I used the same sketch as used for the "columns" to place the Hole locations>

Make the sketch Visible and set to Multiple Holes before selecting the points.

This ensures that everything is concentric and if I edit anything - all remains associative.

It looks like you figured out everything up to this step OK.
