Problem filling in hole in Project

Hi there,

Im new to 3d design and have been slowly working through my first design. I'm having a problem filling in a hole in the face of one of my components. At some point in the workflow, i extruded some holes in the back side of the components and i didn't realize they were too deep. I later realized that they just partially extruded all the way through. I am now trying to fix the surface so that it is smooth and complete but 'm having a problem fixing this. It wouldn't be a problem except when i try to 3d print the component, these holes are also printed. Please see the pics.

Can anyone advise me on how to repair these defects?

You will need to attach your model so the Forum users can troubleshoot it.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

Hi,

Although the design is "suboptimal", try it this way.

 

You must adjust the depth of the new holes to your requirements.

Hey @g-andresen thanks for the help, this looks like the perfect solution!

I'm trying to perform this fix in the same way that you demonstrated, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what tools/ controls you used after creating the sketch. Specifically the one where it brings up the small box where you select "Face" and then which tool you use to fill it. It seems like you might be using some keyboard shortcuts. Can you tell me what you used to perform these steps?

I think  "the tool" you are referring to is Section analysis.

1. create sketch > Project holes > uncheck „linked projection“

2.   (leftclick + hold ) select face of the holes > delete (0:42 - 0:50)

3. Create new holes > profile = projected circles > depth = your decision

I appreciate your attempt at being modest, but truthfully, the OP should start this design from scratch!

@bradym472 

No one wants to hear that, but you're only get yourself deeper into trouble if you continue with these workflows.

 

1. Symmetric designs should be centered around the origin.

2. Move and align operations are to be avoided in mechanical designs. Use joints to locate/position/assemble components..

3. I would avoid most of the geometric primitives. They are only semi-parametric and as such are dangerous artifacts of Fusion 360's early days.
