Problem DXFs to clean up in Fusion 360

Hi

I was given a load of DXF files to create a prop frame. Unfortunately the way the dxfs have been created they seem to have double layers in them that makes it hard to insert them into fusion, and create bodies for them. I want to create clean dxfs as well as build up the who piece:

Screenshot 2021-11-06 202936.jpg

As you will see from the dxf really only the outer border is on one layer with the rest on another.

I remember having to do this along time ago and there was a way of combining layers in fusion I thought. But I carn't seem to remember how to do it now.

As always, any help will be great.

Kind Regards

Ian

Arh, you can work around the problem,

Select the required profiles from underneath.

nalbmnw.PNG

When you are importing a dxf you have the option to create a separate sketch for each separate source Layer.  You should do that to avoid this problem.

Might help.....

Hi

That doesn't seem to work.

The part you extruded is meant to be a hollow section and the other parts are what will be the solid section.

Its intended to be a plate that will be laser cut out of 6mm aluminium.

So alot of those sections will be cut out.

Sure the sketch as it is is hard to work with, but not impossible.

Extrude the plate from the top, and extrude cut all the holes by selecting from underside, or

tsttgi.PNG

Reload the dxf with one sketch per layer, if the dxf is in that format.

Either option will work.

Hi

It does seem that I gave the easier one to do.

I tried another file and it seems worse still. Any thoughts on this?????

Fusion does not supply any free lunches.

This file is not formated with Layers in it's export.

There are 2 layer levels in one sketch after import making it a 3d sketch.

There are a lot of open profiles - even when you convert it to 2d.

Divide and conquer shows differing results in each half.

This sketch is one half mirrored so half can be deleted and make 2.

Might help....

Hi

Thank you for looking at the file and thank you for making a corrected version of it.

Did you have to manually correct the open vectors or did you have software that could do it for you.

I imagine that would have taken along time to do.

Or is there a method I can use that will help me with other files?

Regards

Ian

Hi,

I use V-Carve pro for this.
The tool is indispensable when imported DXFs have to be prepared for carving toolpaths.

Hi
It looks like I need to get VCarve. The more I look at these dxfs the more headaches I am going to have.

I have always been told its better to create these things from scratch and do them properly. There are so many errors in the rest of the files I will have a lot of work ahead of me.

But to make them more useable at this point I need to correct rather than redo.

Thanks for the help.

Kind Regards

Ian
