Print out sketch with dimension lines

For those of use who still use a manual lathe/mill, it would be nice to be able to print out a sketch with the dimension lines. RIght now I have to export it as a DXF into another program, re-add the dimensions then print it out.

lrsmithmi,

You can create a drawing of your model and inside the drawing environment add dimensions.  From here you can save as a pdf and then print off your drawing.

Cheers,

In Germany we have a saying "von Hinten durch die Brust ins Auge" which translates to "from the back through the chest into the eye" for making things unnecessarily complicated.

It should at least be possible to save a sketch directly as PDF. Having to make a sketch 3D, create a drawing and add dimensions again just to be able to export a PDF and print it later is just stupid.

Sketches are the basic of most workflows after all.

@promm

Not the best option but possible. This only works with 3D objects however.

If you have a 2D sketch you are stuck. Plus in a 2D sketch I can have lines / curbes etc that will not show up in the drawing.

But the suggestion makes sense considering how technical drawings are provides in Fusion unlike Rhino.

The main problem still remaining however is the to be honest useless line/curve quality the PDF export provides.

Not well thought out that there's no was to save a 2D sketch with dimensions to a PDF in one simple "Save As" PDF! This is basics people! Most design iterations start in 2D with dimensions that need to be validated before proceeding to 3D.

Easy enough 'solution'.

1: Display the sketch exactly the way you want it. Zoom in to fill the screen.

2: Use the paper icon in the menu (drop down), Capture Image...

3: Set the output and the file type and check the box for 'save to my computer'

4: Open the file and print it. I cropped mine a bit and Print using "fit to page' worked very well.

Optional is to screen capture and paste to a paint program but you get all the screen controls. The extra step to Capture Image and save as .jpg is worth not having all the tool in the image.

If going the screen capture route, you can use ShareX to easily capture a subsection of the screen without the screen controls.  You can setup a hotkey so that it is a one step operation.  I do a lot of technical documentation and ShareX is my goto utility for screen capture.

https://getsharex.com/

Here is how I use it:

1. Right click on ShareX icon in toolbar and select “After capture tasks” then “Open in image editor.” You only have to do this the first time.

2. Right click on ShareX icon in the toolbar and select “Capture” then “Region.”

3. Drag the selection box around the area of the screen you want to capture. The capture will then open in the image editor.

4. In the image editor click on the “Save,” “Save image as,” or “Copy image to clipboard” button.

5. To setup a hotkey to capture a screen region, right click on the ShareX icon in the toolbar and select "HotKey Settings."

What "paper" icon in what menu?  Are you in Fusion 360?  Doesn't sound like it!!
