Hi TF360 & Other Experts,

I can’t understand … the basics.

The explanation step by step:

  • Create planeAtAngle
  • Select the Z-axis of the root component Origin
  • Create a sketch based on just created plane
  • Check the position of the sketches’ origin and the root component origin
  • Measure the distance. Result: <0, -12.125 mm, 0>
  • In the other real design case, the distance was different <0, 12.047 mm, 0>

I am scratching my head … and it is starting to hurt … please help !!!

The test file is attached.

@mango.freund right 😉 But there's more to it, unfortunately!

Drag around on the corners of that newly created construction plane and see how the sketch origin does NOT change.

If you create a plane at angle on an edge or on a sketch line and create a sketch on it, the sketch origin will be located at the center of that  edge or sketch line. However, if the length of that edge of the line changes, or the sketch origin will remain at the same initial location.

When you create plane at angles on axis, which by definition are infinite, the center of what is visual in the viewport will be the center of the sketch origin.

I would much prefer an option that would allow me to select a sketch origin.

Presumably that is such an advanced feature it will likely end up in another $500 extension 😉

Hi TF360 & Other Experts,

The latest update seems to correct the issue (Fusion 360 2.0.17954 x86_64).
The essential test files (before and past the fix) are attached.

the fix only seems to work when creating a plane at an angle on an origin axis.  if you're using a line or edge to create your plane at an angle(the use case I'm most interested in), then it places the sketch origin where the model origin would be if projected into it.😕

but at least they sorted the sketch origin when placed on plane along path.  thankful for that at least

Hi Mr LaughingCreek,

Every stick has two ends, … so an edge or a line segment!

This creates one of the oldest dilemmas humans have faced. Which one would you choose?

MichaelT

PS. My preference ... would be ... the thicker end.
