Comes back when I turn off 'Capture Design History'.

Why?

Is this a bug?

Would really prefer to have 'Capture Design History' turned on, but I need to use that surface pipe tool.

This is by design and is normal behavior for the Fusion 360 application.  It is not a bug.  An Autodesk representative will have to explain why it is not included however.

there are quite a few tools which are not available in the surface tab in a parametric design.  Pipe is one of them.  There is no real hard technical reason why this is so, it was just a question of priority.  So far, as far as I know, you may be the first to ask for it.

There is a workaround - create the pipe as a solid, and then go back and delete the end cap faces while in the surface tab, which will convert it back to a surface body.  Not great, but will get you there.  Or, just use Sweep.

Nah 😉

I've wondered the same thing. It's not a big deal making a solid pipe and deleting the end caps.

It just adds another operation to the timeline  😉

Ah, my mind-reading capability must have been down at that time 🙂.  I could be wrong, of course, but I cannot remember anyone else publicly asking this question before, and I keep pretty close tabs on these forums and other customer requests.  But, the point is not whether anyone has literally asked for this before, but to illustrate that this is not a highly-requested feature, no matter how you measure it.  And, this is why it never got implemented.  Contrary to popular belief, the Fusion team is actually finite, and so has to prioritize its funded projects.  This one (along with surface Box, Cylinder, Torus, etc) just never rose high enough in the list to get implemented.  Sure, it would not be hard, technically, to implement this.  But, the initial implementation is only the start of the work.  There is the testing, bug fixing, ongoing maintenance, documentation, API support, etc.  It does add up over time.  If there are lots of requests for this, then it is more likely to get implemented.  But, if not, I suspect that it may be awhile before this bubbles to the top.

You are correct, I did not actually ask for it publicly.

Contrary to popular belief, at least occasionally I try to be responsible and not ask for stuff that isn't really all that important.
