Performance and Rendering Issues with Motion Links

Hello,

 

I recently learned how to utilize Motion Links in Autodesk, but I've been encountering some performance issues. While a single Motion Link works seamlessly, using three or four simultaneously causes noticeable lag and stuttering, both on my Mac M1 and my powerful PC (i7 9th Gen and RTX 2080). I'm wondering if this behavior is normal or if there might be something I'm not doing right. Here's a design where I'm having this issue.

 

Additionally, I'm planning to create a smooth video of my design in the Animation tool. However, when I switch from the Design tool to the Animation tool, the joints and all the motion links I've worked on seem to disappear. Furthermore, I've been struggling to make my spiral turn relative to its own rotation axis in the Animation tool since the "transform" option is kind of hard to work with. Is there a way to render a smooth video of my design while keeping the joints and motion links active?

Nope! The animation simply does not honor the joints created in an assembly. Unfortunately!

An observation and a piece of info.  I notice that you have 4 tangent relationships in this model, but as near as I can tell, the relationship is between 2 planar faces.  I apologize if I have that wrong:

I wonder if those could be replaced by another joint type, like a Planar joint.  I do know that, while not as bad as contact sets, tangent relationships are expensive.  They are intended to support mechanisms like cam followers, that cannot be modeled by another joint type.

 

Second, one method for getting a video is a Motion Study.  This lets you control how the joints move together, and is also integrated with the render service, and can generate a video directly.  There are issues with Motion Study, too - not enough time steps, for instance, but it can be a useful tool, too.

Wow, thanks a lot, you really helped me there! I've removed the tangent relationships and now everything in my design is running smoothly.

 

Initially, I hadn't considered the cost implications of using tangent relationships. I decided to use them to save time on attaching the servomotor and the ring. I couldn't use a planar joint because I needed the servo's rotation axis to be precisely centered on the ring and I guess I can't make 2 joints...
