pattern on complex surface

I'm having a tough time figuring out how to create a pattern on a more complex curved surface. Im trying to put the hexagonal pattern in the picture on the raised part of the grip and the raised part of the front grip shown in the pictures im wanting the hexagonal detail to be slightly extruded from the raised surface just like on the part its already on. No matter what I've tried it wont follow the curvature of the raised part of the grip. Looking for a little direction as to how to do that. Thanks in advance.

This might help 

One way to have extruded objects following the uneven surface is using Extrude with option "From Object"

So, in first step we can create the base surface as we want it and then extrude the profiles with From Object option.
