Parametric formulas

Hi there !

I am hoping someone can help me figure out something I am working with.
I am making a file for a ladder design. The ladders are going to be used for reaching loft beds or bunk beds.

I would like to be able to design something that can allow me make shorter or taller laders.
I am therefore using parameters. But I am encountering a problem when it comes to drawing the steps.

To keep it not too complicated I would like to keep the same distance between each steps but since the height of the ladder might change, I might end up needing more or less steps.

I probably need a formula for that so I was thinking perhaps someone can send me info on the type of formulas I could possibly use there.

The way I thought about designing that is that I basically make a sketch and on the sketch is defined (by my parameters - and therefore by the height of the ladder) how many steps I need (so how many circles are drawn on my sketch). And then from that sketch I will create the extrusions. But perhaps you'd have a better advice.
I can already see a problem if for instance the first ladder I make is let's say 2000mm and has 9 steps. If I extrude the 9 circles I get from my sketch, then I might get an error message if after that, I want to shrink my ladder to 1500mm and have 6 step (giving random numbers, but I hope you follow). Then I will have 3 extrusion operations whose sketch will no longer exist.
Does that make sense?

Would you have some advice on how I can design this best.

Many thanks in advance !

Best

You can simply divide the length of the ladder by the distance between the steps and round it. That will provide the number of steps that will allways be matched to the length of the ladder and the distance between the steps.

See attached file for study.
