Parameter set up for repeating pattern in Sketch Mode

Good morning/afternoon/evening,

I was curious if there was a way to do a repeating pattern utilizing parameters to get a pattern around tricky curves at a set distance? My PC is...not a fan of extruding, so I am using everything in sketch mode for patterns.

Another option if applicable, is there a way to extrude, take that extruded repeating body, and then flatten it down to a sketch, or to sketch over it and then delete the body so I can get the spacing via the repeating pattern in 3D.

Attached is the file in question, the circles (stitching holes for leather) I am trying to get to follow the path without utilizing the extrude option due to serious lag/crashes for my old Dinosaur PC.

Hi,

The problems are caused by your PC being in sketch mode.
Therefore create only one extrusion at a time and duplicate the holes in SOLID mode.

I first removed the arrangement on both sides in the sketch and got only 3 circles. From these I then extruded (separate) holes in SOLID mode.
From this I created an arrangement with the option FEATURES on the left and right side.
The additional advantage of this method is the possibility to change the number and distances afterwards.

@Anonymous - in all honesty, your old computer will likely have more problems with a complex sketch than with extrude.  This is why we tell people to use Face/Feature pattern in a solid instead of sketch pattern.  Sketch pattern (or any large sketch, for that matter) will cause definite performance problems.  This sketch is not there yet, but if you have more to add, it will get there quickly.

I'm assuming from context here that you want the result to be in 2D, as a sketch.  Is that a hard requirement?  If so, then I would recommend you do the patterns in the solid world, then create a new empty sketch on the XZ plane, and use Project to project the geometry onto that sketch.  Because that geometry is fixed, that sketch should work relatively well.

Hi,

Arrangements in SOLID mode offer as a further advantage the possibility to create the arrangements also on a self-designed path.

This is not possible in sketch mode.
In the attachment you will find a file extended by this feature.
The rectangular arrangements are identical with the file from my contribution 2.
If you want to have the whole thing as a drawing, you create a drawing from the body, dimension it and print it in 1:1.
