Open Metric Fusion file but My default is inch

I am in US and we are still dominant inch but we do work in metric.  I bring in a file that is metric but my settings are still inch ( and I am not aware ).    In Mastercam it warns me or changes default but Fusion does not

Hey SuncoastTechnicalCollege,

Units don't affect the geometry in F360, they're just a way to describe the units. Under Document Settings in the Browser, you can change the units to whatever you like. If you bring in a metric design and your document is set to inches, it won't scale the design, it will just describe it in imperial units in the Inspect tools, and any new geometry you make will be in inches unless you add "mm" or "cm" to the end of the number you enter.

thks - I am aware of the settings in mfg and design and defaults. This is in refernce to the MFG world where we don't do the design. 

In CAM side of Cad/Cam, we don't really know what kind of file we are getting in the USA - could be metric or inch.   Its common today for anyone to send a design with no drawings to review or give you a heads up to metric or inch.  You only discover by accident is some cases.  like if I see 25.4mm -  

In most education its common for tutorials to all be in metric - where in US A - actual MFG is inch , the dominent unit.  
I was just referring to the Cadcam sytem I knew before. It gave a warning if I was set it metric and the import was inch  - thks

I check >>every file<<.

Every year I tell my students for 15 weeks that one of them will use incorrect units on the final exam.

And every year I am right - someone uses incorrect units even though we fluently switch between mm and inches for 15 weeks prior.

I do like that Fusion can change on the fly with no scaling. I imported a Fusion 360 file on Auto University for CO2 dragster cars and it was in inch.  I need the fixture design to import - but the cars were all metric. So I just switched units and did a measure and it was correct. In mastercam I have to do a scale factor

My default modeling units are mm and CAD (Manufacturing) is inches.  The modeling units don't affect the CAD units.

I don't care what the units are as long as the magnitude for the dimension is correct for the units that are used.

There is a big difference between 15 inches and 15 mm or 1.5 inches and 1.5 mm.  

Often just looking at the object and knowing its intended use - the difference should have been obvious.

One piece I find missing in education of solid design and now in industry is the old blueprint.   If you send me a SW file , Inventor - IGES etc.  its only a solid model with no reference - If we are looking at a process or order material or even capability we need to know basic size. Sitting around a table on Monday morning reviewing jobs to quote on we are looking at drawings.  I find that many students do not know how to make an industrial drawing -
