Offset Plane Help

Hi,

newbie question, I offset a current plane ( sketch ) and the sketch from which I offset from completely disappears. This has happened twice and I was just wondering if this is common due to an error on my part or is it a software thing.

In Preferences turn off 'Auto hide sketch on feature creation'.
