Offset and dimensions

When I draw a rectangle, or even a line, offset it then try to add a dimension to the offset I can only add a driven dimension even though I can drag the sides of the rectangle or ends of the line and change the dims.

It seems very strange and has caused many WTF moments.

Is this by design?  Is there a way to change it?

Hi,

If you want to dimension the offset line independently, you have to remove the offset constraint.

Thanks, but I realise that and wasn't what I want to do most of the time. Sometimes I'm looking to constrain the offset line not the original and I wondered if that was possible and if not wondered why not.
