NPT pipe threads (new hole wizard)

Looking through the options on a the new hole creation tool I see all types of pipe threads except NPT.  There are Bsp pipe threads but not Npt? am I missing something?

Hi

I contacted support since I'm a paying subscriber now. They do have a workaround which are instructions on how to manually carve the profile with other CAD tools for NPT etc. If you are a paying subscriber I encourage you to write in and say you would like tapered threads finished. Reference feature:FUS-67706

Here is the link for the workaround:

Modeled NPT Threads

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast/3ca46950-d9e3-4aac-81b5-83755d713f3a

I'll summarize in case this link goes dead in the future.

1. You make a hole with tapered sides using the hole command and the countersink feature. The diameter, sides & angle presumably match the tapered hole dimensions of the type you want.

2. Using the coil command start the coil in the hole center with the diameter of the wide end of the hole. Set the coil to cut and go down through the hole. See example below. I imagine some consulting machinery's handbook etc. on NPT or tapered thread forms is going to be required.

I hope this helps some at least.

It will give you something that looks like a thread.  It may be suitable for 3d printing, but shouldn't be confused with a real thread form😃

Note:  The taper is done with the coil tool, not the countersink.  The countersink does the chamfer at the start of the thread.

I moved on to FreeCAD and said goodbye to Autodesk. If I have to create my own plugins, why would I pay for F360?

Bye bye

I would agree with you, until it's time to run a sim, program a CNC or even do some generative design.  There are serious flaws (or omissions) but taken on average, Fusion 360 is still a bargain.  Do you use the Robot Workbench at all?  I saw that a while back and was interested, but adding, learning another software is not attrative to me at the moment.

I think it's obvious at this point Autodesk isn't going to add this. They know we have a work around and thus they don't need to take efforts away from **** like Generative Design. I think the Fusion 360 team has a distorted view of what MOST people use this software for. Maybe I'm wrong but given the updates in recent years......

Bump. You guys really need to add NPT [☑️]modeled option in the thread creation tool.

Still not implemented ? Why ?

If they have a workaround, it is not a technical problem.

We have a paid license and it is a basic feature... I don't know if we will renewed our license because we used regularly this feature with our other software.

Come on guys. NPT tapered threads are a big pain to manually program the bore and single point cut on a lathe. I was hoping there would be something in the thread command that would automate the process. I see promises dating back to 2015 saying it was on the way. What's the hold up?
I'm a bit frustrated after doing it manually after expecting to dive into Fusion and spit out code quickly.

Soooooo, 08FEB23, NPT yet? I don't see them. And I'm no British, so BPT doesn't work for me.

almost 6 years and no NPT. **** should have read this forum before getting into Fusion, major flaw in the programing. The Entire US uses NPT and yet a modelling software doesn't have them and it has been asked to be added for over 6 years.

Since you are responding to a Forum post concerning NPT threads using the Hole command, I assume you are looking for internal NPT threads.  NPT threads are now available in the Hole command dialog.  They cannot be modeled, as you might expect, but they are present.  I have not checked the dimensional accuracy of the threads.  External NPT are not available.

Doesn't do much good if it is only one way and not the other. There are things we do at our company that uses external and internal. One without the other is pretty useless.

If they can get it to work one way why haven't they made it universal in the software?

The lack of this feature is a metaphore for the entire plaform.  I imagine Sales and Marketing define the "roadmap" to allocate resources for the year.  There isn't enough complaining to justify the allocations of resources to "fix" this issue.  Then you have the "hot shots" who volunteer their time to put lipstick on the pig....and there is plenty of lipstick on this pig.

While is certainly is an annoying oversight by Autodesk (read through this subject and you'll see they even promised to fix it), it is not the only turd in the Fusion 360 punch bowl.  Shrinkflation (making previsously free features require a fee) and just plain old inflation are making it less likely they will fix these issues.  A few complaints for a broken promise aren't so bad, eh?

While Fusion is still a bargain, it's definately not the bargain it used to be as these little crappy annoyances start to add up.  Solidworks is starting to look pretty good, esepcially the Maker's version...sorry John.

Week (for Autodesk) = 10 years for the average person.

I suspect you must NOT need NPT threads?
