November Update doesn't install on OS X

When I clicked the update button, the loading window appeared and disappeared before it started loading anything. I tried this several times but to no avail. I decided to make a clean install and that didn't work either: when I double click the install icon (Autodesk Client Downloader), it looks like the installer is starting, but then it just disappears and nothing happens.

Luckily I have also a PC and the latest version works fine on Windows 10, so I'm not in desperate situation (yet) 🙂

OS X El Capitan

Version 10.11.1

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core i7

Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB

Welcome to the Fusion 360 community! I am sorry to hear about the issue. Can you provide a little more information about this issue?

When you said clean install, did you first perform the clean uninstall procedure and in the below link?

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How...

If you did and it didn't help, can you please share the installation log file? The below link tells you how to obtain the log file.

https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Una...

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Yup, I did the clean uninstall according to the instructions. I will attach the log file copy here.  Apparently the file was too large. Here's a Dropbox link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/91984/autodesk.webdeploy.streamer%20copy.txt

Thanks for the quick reply.

We noticed an error message in the log file. There appears to be a permission error. Some possible causes may be:

  • Anti virus software if any is installed
  • Inadequate user permissions
  • Other active processes/tasks

You may try restarting computer, disabling anti virus software, stopping any unnecessary background processes, or manually deleting the above referenced directory/file. I hope that help and please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem. My location is Hong Kong. That happened to all my Macs at home at office. (Four of them). Just one question, did you by any chance installed the Apple Store version? or After installing that, did you uninstall that? Or did you buy the license from the Mac App Store? If you did you might not be able to update from the web version nor activate the downloader. The experts in Autodesk already contacted me.

Due to some problems with resellers in HK not carrying Fusion360, I had to purchase from the Mac App Store and start a brand new ID after using Fusion 360 for maybe 3 years +.

It was updating before, this new one happened exactly the way you described it. Even a clean installation from the Web will not work.

Try the Mac App Store version. That version was updated the same date this time. It installed on all my machines and runs nicely now.But uninstall your web version first. If the uninstall program did not work you right click the icon on Dock, show in Finder, delete the Autodesk Fusion360.app.   Then at the finder select Go To  then  ~/Library   select Application Support and delete the whole /Autodesk   folder if Fusion 360 was your only Autodesk program. If not you have to delete the individual folders inside like WebDeploy and so on.

Good Luck! It is working for me now.

I think it is Apple that is doing all these tricks now. Even my Sugarsync program is behaving very abnormally now after all these updates.

I will notify Brian on your thread.

The log will show "Permission Denial" in it for now reason at all. I already experienced all these.

Hi Brianrepp and others had sent me email on these problems. As well as Marshal Tu from Shanghai, one of their developers. I had sent them information and they are working on it. I also sent them the thread to your post. Hopefully all these could be worked out. If it were Apple that prevented us from installing or updating from the web version, then they just have to improve the speed of the Sandbox condition to make updating faster in that case. The fact that you could update your PC version proved that. So it was not Autodesk that stopped the updating in the Macs. It must be the Apple Update that claims to have a better Installer. Apple kind of strange lately anyway. They flashed up ID Identification request everytime I turned on my phone. I just hit "not now".

I personally do not mind installing from Mac App Store since I got the license from there. Just the updating seems a bit slow. These time it is the same date so should work fine.

I only lost my Early Adopter status and could not use the newer Ultimate but I do not do CNC so should be OK.

Hi, I myself only have Sugarsync, Adobe Cloud (CC), Clean my Drive started when logged in. I already disabled all these from starting and still could not update nor install from the webversion. All these could be done before this new update. I do not think Apple Users use any anti-virus programs. Most of them do not. I do not use them. The security settings all the same as before.

So the "Permission" part is very strange. All the method you suggested had been tested and not working. I could only Install from MAS now. As long as it is working it is fine for now. Only future patches might now work that fast in our version.

I've tried everything except installing through App Store and I'm not sure if I even want to do that, since I believe that App Store version doesn't get updated at the same pace as the regular one.

Oh, there's one other thing I haven't tried yet, which is disabling El Cap's 'System Integrity Protection'. I suspect El Capitan being a 'rootless' system by default can sometimes cause these kinds of permission problems.

Hi you might have found the real cause of the problem. Thanks. Regards, luvmesweet

Disabling SIP didn't help, but I made progress by doing something else. I created a new user with administrator rights and Fusion 360 installed without any problems using the new account. Now I'll just have to find what process or processes interfere with F360's streamer program on my actual user account.

I have tried the following already:

Disabling iCloud ( since the new account didn't have that enabled )

Uninstalled all Logitech drivers ( Everything Logitech is on the top of my list when I try to find cause to problems 😄 )

I'll let you know if I find the solution.

Hi thanks for the information. Yes I will look for the reason on my end. It is very strange. But at least you had found a solution. I will try that on all four of my macs. It is best not to have to create a new user account. I have to create four of them.

System log says this:

18/11/15 14:39:00,024 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.apple.xpc.launchd.oneshot.0x1000000c.Fusion 360 Client Downloader[667]) Service exited with abnormal code: 1

and the next message after that is this:

18/11/15 14:39:13,514 com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.apple.quicklook[672]) Endpoint has been activated through legacy launch(3) APIs. Please switch to XPC or bootstrap_check_in(): com.apple.quicklook

I don't know if the latter has anything to do with F360 installation process, but the first one definitely does, but I don't know what to make of it 🙂

Hi, thanks for your effort. It might had to do with Fusion 360 process in that case. I checked my user group. All fine, in fact all my other programs not from MAS can update very well. So maybe Fusion 360 team should look into it. For the time being I cannot change my user names due to other cloud service. If I did that my sugarsync will have to change user names and that might not be too good at this time. So maybe I just have to wait for the Fusion team to look into it.  I wonder if other Apple users had the same problem. I cannot believe that we are the only two. In fact Kevin from Autodesk called me today and we tried to delete many traces of Autodesk Fusion 360 in different folders. Still could not install from the Website.  I had forwarded your post to Kevin and hopefully they can solve the problems.

Thanks, that is great help!

Hi In fact Adobe Creative Cloud updated automatically in all my Macs this morning and they installed OK. So I assume that there must be something going on here.

We must use the same program which somehow prevents F360 to install. It could be Adobe CC, since apparently we both have that. I don't know.

Hi Helsset,

Do you have any antivirus or firewall running? If so can you try removing and launching Fusion again?

Also, can you send us your log file? This is located in /users/<username>/library/logs and is called autodesk.webdeploy.streamer.log

Can you also tell us specifically what you are seeing and at what point?

Thanks!

Hi,

I removed all the possible F360 files before re-installing and I disabled the firewall and every other runnin program I could before installing. Also, I checked the 'Allow apps downloaded from: everywhere' from the security panel and disabled all the login items on start up. I have also deleted few programs I have installed since September, but nothing has helped so far.

You can see the latest log files on my earlier post above.

One particular thing is puzzling me on this too, could be nothing, but when I click the download link on my current user account, the page looks like this:

but when I do the same on my newly created test account, it shows the pictures. Strange.

The image downloads normally, I click the image, OS X verifies and mounts it as usual. When I click the F360 icon with 'Double-click to install', the system asks me "“Double Click to Install” is an application downloaded from the Internet. Are you sure you want to open it?" I click open, the warning disappears and then the whole process halts and nothing happens.

Dear all, I had already tried many things, but still could not install nor update Fusion. I could not test anymore since I do have projects to do for my European Clients. For the mean time I will just use the MAS version. Fusion 360 is the only program and the first time that I experienced this in the last four years I had been using it. It only clashed this time. All other non MAS installed programs were able to update automatically including Sugarsync. I reinstalled Sugarsync yesterday from their site and it installed Fine. I already tried to quit all programs before installing Fusion 360 again and no use. I could not build another User Account.

So I rest on this case. Hopefully Fusion team can find the solution but If you and I were the only two in the world experiencing this. It is strange. Where are you located? I am located in Hong Kong in the last few days. It could be location dependence.

Thanks and I will rest in this case.
